The AFIR (Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation) is an EU regulation designed to standardize the deployment of charging stations and hydrogen refueling stations across Europe. It has been in effect since April 2024 and imposes concrete requirements, particularly on charging infrastructure operators (CPOs) and their backend systems.
The Federal Network Agency is the official charging station directory for Germany.
The AFIR requires member states to operate a “National Access Point” (NAP). In Germany, this is Mobilithek.
The directory allows electric vehicle drivers to find the nearest public charging stations on a map and in a list. It provides detailed information on location, connector types, charging power, operating hours, and roaming options.
As the backend operator of publicly accessible charging stations, eCarUp (we, as the platform developer) is legally required to transmit its charging station data to Mobilithek. This ensures that all public and roaming-enabled charging stations in Germany are recorded and can be found by electric car drivers.
We transmit the data both statically and dynamically.
Example of dynamic transmission:
Current availability (whether a charging station is free, occupied, or reserved)
Static example:
Charging power
Plug types
EVSE ID
Power type (AC or DC)
etc.
Access must be public
The location must be configured.
The charging point must have a price listed
You can find the instructions here: Station Management
If the charging station is on our map https://www.ecarup.com/map/ecarupmap.html
It may take up to 2 business days for the data to appear on the Federal Network Agency's website
