On Oct 2, 2017 11:38 AM:
Hey everyone, here's some more info about the tournament this weekend.
SCHEDULE AND PLAY
The schedule is posted here:
There are different tabs for the different parts of the schedule.
For Division 1 I just guessed on seeding based on results from last year and returning players.
For Division 2 they are just seeded alphabetically, everyone will play everyone else with the last game being a repeat game against an opponent based on how they finished in pool play.
All games will be to 13. Hard cap will be at 75 minutes. No soft cap. One timeout per half plus one floater. Timeouts--offense needs to be set within 70 seconds of calling the timeout and then defense has 20 seconds to be set.
There will be tournament food provided.
Please be there by 2:15 on Friday and by 7:45 on Saturday.
The rest of the items below are for all teams, both high school and middle school:
Practice as usual: Sat 8-10, Mon 5-6:30, Thu 5-7
Thanks to everyone who came to the game last weekend. It was great to see so many of you there. But now we know that we have a LOT of work to do and a lot to learn. So get yourself to practice! AND...throw, throw, throw!
Fall 3000 Throw, throw, throw!
Getting out to throw consistently on your own is really going to make a difference in your game. Some of you had trouble entering it into the spreadsheet from your phone. To enter throws into the spreadsheet from your phone, you need to do it from the free Google Sheets app. You can also enter your throws on the web from a computer. It's ok to write your throws down on a piece of paper and then just enter them into the spreadsheet at the end of the season too. Click here to edit the spreadsheet .
Yesterday at practice some of you asked what throws could be counted toward the 3000, so here is some clarification:
Can I count throws in practice? Yes! Throws in practice count; throws in games do not. But if you throw on the sidelines of a game while waiting to get into the game, that counts. And throwing on your own outside of practice counts, of course! Why can I count throws in practice? Some players miss practices. But if you are at every practice, you deserve to be rewarded. Same if you throw on the sidelines at games and tournaments.
Is it ok to guess if I forgot to count today? No! It is ok to think back after a practice and count specific throws that you can remember, but no guessing.
Do I have to write them down? Yes! Actually, you can record them in your phone. But there is no way you can remember and track them in your head. You will get confused and forget. You don't have to track them in the spreadsheet. You can count them on paper and then put the total in the spreadsheet once you are done. But the count needs to be in the spreadsheet when you are done.
What's in the swag bag if I get 3000 throws? Grizzlies jerseys, shorts, misprint discs, headphones, powerades and boxes of granola bars, Discstore and SL county league jerseys and T-shirts, gloves, field cones, and injury supports (ankle braces, knee braces, etc). If you make 5000 throws, you can also choose from Grizzly discs or light-up discs. If you make 6000 throws, you can choose from the above swag (except grizzly or lightup discs) PLUS an additional jersey, shorts, or T-Shirt. And for 8000 throws, choose a grizzly or light-up disc PLUS a jersey, shorts or T-shirt. No additional swag for more than 8000 throws, but it will still make you awesome!
Big Hi-5 to Ben, who has completed his 3000 throws already!!! There are a couple of players whose game has significantly and noticeably improved in the few weeks we have been practicing. Ben is one of them. If you want to get better, get out and throw the disc!
Pickup Ultimate: More practice!
I would like to invite each of you to participate in pickup ultimate games when you are able. Pickup games are just a group of people who come together at a specific time to play ultimate. It is usually adults, but most of the time anyone is welcome (as long as you're not a jerk ;-) ). This is great additional practice. And it's a lot of fun. I didn't have a high school team, so I learned how to play ultimate through pickup. There are games somewhere in Salt Lake every weekday at lunchtime as well as Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights. There are several Saturday games as well. Message me if you would like more details. I could even offer you a ride if I can go. I play at the lunchtime games sometimes as well as the Tuesday night games. I would love to see some of you come out to play as well. Let me know if you are interested.
Registrations: Most of you still have not completed registration and fees. Check this spreadsheet to see what you still have left to do. If you have questions or think the spreadsheet is incorrect, please contact me (coach).
Uniforms: The uniform order is in, and uniforms will be here within 2 weeks. Hopefully by LPI, but don't hold your breath.
