We don't have a team in this Saturday's (4/27) tournament in Logan because I didn't hear anything when I put it out there. However, the Bingham coach reached out to me looking for some help to fill a roster for both their HS Girls & Boys teams. I heard that one of the Logan girls teams is also in need of a few players. This will be a great opportunity to get some awesome game time experience and build some spirit with other teams. I strongly recommend that you do it if you can. Let me know ASAP if you are interested. I'm sure we could arrange for you to get a ride with them too if needed. For everyone else - we will have practice as usual at Park Village Park at 9am Saturday.
Upcoming tournaments
5/3-4 Daweena HS Boys Tournament Legacy Events Center, Farmington, UT. We have been accepted to this tournament. Please clear your schedules now!
5/10-11 Utah MS State Tournament Weber County Fairgrounds, Ogden, UT. We are in. MS Players & Parents, please put this on your calendar and plan accordingly if you haven't already.
5/17-18 Utah HS Division I State Tournament. HS Boys & Girls Teams. Location TBA. We are in. HS Players & Parents, please put this on your calendar and plan accordingly if you haven't already.
Practices
Practices will continue as normal. HS: Mo, Tu, Th, Fr 5pm. Sa 9am except for game/tournament days. I believe that Gary has modified the practice schedule for MS to Mo & We 5pm, Sa 9am. Any MS who want to join the HS practice on Tu, Th, or Fr are welcome, but the schedule change was to avoid *too much* demand on the families, and to encourage all MS players to show up on the same days. I'll leave the invite for MS players to join HS practice out there, and leave that to parents' discretion. More often than not, the HS team benefits from MS players being there to give them additional numbers. Note that I included Thursday on our practice days: League will be over this week - we should use our remaining Thursdays to prepare for state. Captains & player coaches: I would like you to run practices for the next few weeks. I want to spend more time giving one-on-one coaching to those who need it during practice time. This week we want to focus on speed & smart cutting - so run a running drill like ladders *and* let's run some end zone sets. Also, cutting drills such as the crossover drill or the power position drill with a defender would be great. Please make our scrimmage time 3v3 or 4v4 as much as possible unless we are practicing zone or some offensive scheme (H-stack, v-stack, etc) We'll see you there!
Spring 3000 Challenge
I have not heard if anyone is working on the throwing challenge this spring. We have a few weeks left. This will really help your game. Plus you get some sweet swag!
Uniforms
If all goes well we should receive our uniform order at the end of next week, just in time for Daweena. Whether or not we receive them in time for Daweena, they will be here in time for the state tournaments.
Summer Ultimate
We still have much ultimate to play this season, so I don't want to get too far ahead, but I want you all to just keep in the back of your minds that we will be playing ultimate throughout the summer. This is where you will separate yourselves from the pack *if* you play / practice regularly throughout the summer. We will play twice / week. Plus there is Swarm (see below), county league, a new South Valley youth league that is possibly in the works, Summer 3000 challenge, various camps & clinics, plus pickup pretty much every day somewhere in the Salt Lake area. Who wants daily ultimate in the summer? Hopefully your hands are all in the air. Let's play. Bring it on!
Swarm is the Utah's Youth travelling club team. A very exciting opportunity if you want to take your game to the next level, whether you're a graduating senior this year or you'll be back again next year. I highly encourage all of you to check it out. See the email below. Note that although this pre-tryout workout has already passed, you can still attend tryouts. At least fill out the form they have provided so that you can receive announcements about it.
