*** Note that start time Friday for the state tournament is still undecided because they are waiting for a few teams to confirm they will be at the tournament. Right now it's looking like a 12pm start time, but I will let you know ASAP.
Also record your throws & runs at the link above ^ so you can get some swag!
Most of the info in here was already sent out on 11/29. Changes are highlighted in red.
Schedule Change!
Thursday will be a regular practice for all teams. No games. Krakens decided they needed a practice more than a scrimmage, so the game we had scheduled briefly is cancelled.
Friday & Saturday HS will be participating in a UVU tournament. Therefore Friday film night is postponed until after the state tournament. Also I would encourage CH players to participate in the UVU tournament rather than the Halloween Hat Saturday, but if you are just dying to take part in the Halloween Hat (no pun intended), I support you in that.
I still encourage middle school to take part in the Halloween Hat. It will be a very fun learning experience for you.
There will be no practice for the next 2 Saturdays because the high school players will be at tournaments.
UVU Invitational Tournament
This Friday & Saturday, Nov 2-3
UVU Geneva Fields, Vineyard (near Orem): https://www.uvu.edu/maps/main/?id=382&mrkIid=187587

This will be a combined A & B Team - all high school players.
There is no requirement for a 4:3 gender ratio. We can have 5:2 or 6:1 or 7:0 and we do not need to match.
UVU Tournament Packet includes Fri schedule, tournament rules, etc
Turf fields with lights. Come prepared:
Turf fields are awesome, but less forgiving than grass. When you stop, you stop! Shorter and/or softer cleats are better on turf. Knobby-soled shoes such as trail runners may even be sufficient. Lace up well and take good care of your feet because turf fields are a little harder on them.
Turf burns are a possibility, but don't let that deter you from laying out. The underlayment on a turf field is surprisingly 'soft' and often softer than our hard packed Utah soil. A very well maintained grass field still beats a turf field, but turf is going to be WAY better than the Equestrian Park & Park Village Park fields. Still, you may want protection such as tights, athletic arm sleeves and gloves (especially considering it will be chilly) to prevent turf burn. But even if you don't have those items, don't worry. You'll still be fine.
Dress warm! Bring jackets. It will be very chilly on the sidelines, especially after the sun goes down Friday.

Results from last week
Thanks to parents & family members who came out to support both the middle school and the high school teams.
I will be sending a thank you email to the Lone Peak coaches for the tournament last week as well as to the league directors for the work they put into organizing the league. They would be happy to hear any messages from parents or players. If you have a brief message or just a thank-you, please send it to me and I will include it. Here is the feedback from the other teams on our spirit:
Lone Peak C They had good spirit and were fun. #4 had really good spirit and played well.
Lone Peak D It was a good game they started with a lot of scores and then we came back some. We tried to give them high fives but they seemed to not like that. We will try to do better.
Green Canyon Good team. They have very good disc movement. We love playing them.
Lone Peak Y Overall good spirit. Good at working out calls and not getting frustrated, just working it out. Shout out to Jack for good movement and great attitude.
Maeser Good spirit. Good game and nothing to complain about.
(Missing the spirit sheet from Sky View)
Comment from coach: Let's try to maintain good spirit no matter what the other team does. I know that LPD likes to play 4 girls 3 boys and that makes it hard for us (and most teams). So it seems kind of unspirited. But that is totally legal for them to do. Let's be spirited and give them high-5s anyway. And I would expand that to all teams: let's have the best spirit despite what the other teams do.
HS league results & standings are available here: http://utahultimate.org/e/high-school-fall-mixed-league/standings . CHA was clearly a better team than Lehi, but they had a more favorable schedule and played better in critical games. They beat Westlake twice, we won 1 and lost 1. They only lost by 2 to Bingham. Bingham kicked us around the field in both of our Bingham games. Not sure why. Even our B Team took Lehi to universe point. We should get another shot at them this weekend and maybe next weekend :) .
League discs
I have league discs for those who had their league registration & payments done early. For others of you who got it done later, they are going to give me your discs at the state tournament. Thanks for getting it done.
1on1s
I would like to visit with each of you (just 5-10mins) to talk about where you're at, where you'd like to be, what you'd like to work on, and I'll share with you what I think will help your game the most. I'm also interested in your feedback. Let me know how I can do better as a coach. I'm not going to remember or have time to pull each of you aside, however, so I'm putting that responsibility on you. Please come and pull me aside during practice or during a tournament so we can talk.
Fall challenge
Winter Challenge & pickup / practice
Begins 11/11. Same challenge as fall: throw 3000 throws or 50 miles, 50 ladders, 1000 squats, & 1000 calf raises. Complete by Spring Season, Mar 1.
We will play ultimate through the winter on Wednesdays at 3:30 and Saturdays at 8:30. It's optional. But *DO NOT* consider it optional if your goal is to make it to the state championship game.
Will reschedule film night for some time after the state tournament.
