Copper Hills Ultimate ~
Nice job this fall season! All of our teams worked very hard. Hopefully you had fun. I did.
Keep playing in the winter! (HS & MS)
We know that we have a lot of work to do to be competitive with the top teams in the state. We have 3 months before spring season starts. Let's use the time to close that gap by playing ultimate and throwing through the winter. The boys A Team will have some open spots and needs players to step up to fill that gap. Players on the mixed A Team - keep playing to ensure that your spot doesn't get taken by someone else.
You can watch video during the winter and dream about a spring state championship, but there is no substitute to getting out with a disc. Technically, playing now during the off-season is optional. However, if you want to play for the Boys A Team, you should consider playing ultimate during the winter as *not* optional. Girls, you have a good team. The opportunity is there for you to make it into the state championship game. You too should not consider winter ultimate optional if getting into the championship game is your goal.
2018 USAU Registrations (HS & MS)
Registrations for 2018 have already begun. You should have received an email from USAU about renewing your membership. For returning players (that's all of you), the process is simple. Do it now - you get a $5 discount on your USAU fee by completing the registration by Dec 31. As always, contact me (coach) through groupme or at ultimatechills@gmail.com if you have any questions.
Go to the Pending Actions page on usaultimate.org: https://play.usaultimate.org/members/pendingactions/
Login. Use the 'Forgot Password?' link if you forgot your user name or password.
On that page, click to pay your 2018 USAU dues and renew your membership. When it asks for 'membership level,' choose 'Youth Player.' Use code 5DECYOUTH to get a $5 discount if you renew by Dec 31.
Also on that page, click with your parents to sign off the waiver for 2018. If you are 18, you can do this without your parents.
Finally, on that page, under 'Player Notifications', click to confirm that you are on the team.
Registration done! Now we can focus on the good stuff. Let's play some ultimate!
A few notes: 1) If your insurance or primary care doctor have changed since last year, I will need a new medical authorization form from you. You can open a blank form to fill out by clicking here.
2) I have added all HS boys to the boy's B Team. I will move A Team players to the A Team roster after tryouts. Girls have only 1 team.
3) I have added all MS players to the MS team, and all MS girls to the HS girls team as well. Some MS Boys may be added to the HS team after tryouts if qualified.
4) I will be choosing captains and player coaches, but we are also in need of spirit captains and team managers. If you would like to fill one of those roles, let me know (you can still become a team captain).
State tournament results (HS)
A Team won all of their games in pool play Friday, including an exciting win over Lone Peak B. It was the first time a Copper Hills team has gone undefeated in pool play in any tournament ever. It was also only the 2nd time that a Copper Hills Team has defeated Lone Peak B ever. In their first game Saturday, A Team got down 8-1 at half time. They just could not recover from that deficit, despite a stellar second half where they staged a serious comeback outscoring Jordan 9-6. If the game had gone 10-15 minutes longer, they could have pulled off the win. During the comeback, this game also saw AJ make the best play of the entire tournament - a layout callahan that could have made the one of the AUDL's top 10. A Team finished the day playing for 5th place against LPB (again) but were just too exhausted, losing 15-10. They finished 4-2 overall for the tournament; all in all not a bad showing. Let's work hard through the winter so we can put Jordan and LPB in the rearview mirror as we try to take down Timpview and LPA and the Krakens in the spring!
B Team and C Team had a few close games , including C Team's highest scoring game to date - a 15-9 loss to Green Canyon. C Team's improvement throughout the season is clear. We're looking to make the Green Canyon game a tight game in the spring! B Team also fought a tough battle against Sky Ridge on Friday, but ended up coming up short. B Team and C Team finished 15th and 16th, respectively.
The Krakens won the championship by a fairly big margin over LPA, 15-7. The entire results of the tournament can be found here: https://play.usaultimate.org/events/2017-Utah-HS-Mixed-State-Championship/schedule/mixed/High-School-Mixed/
I'm proud of you all. You worked hard this season. We know that we have a lot to work on through the winter to prepare for the spring. Many of your games you were short-handed, especially the girls. But you fight through. Nice job. We will see you at pickup through the winter.
Hi-5s to players who were consistent at practice and threw outside of practice during the fall season!!!
Spring Ultimate (MS & HS)
Tryouts: 2/12-15 (Mo-Th) 4:30pm. 2/17 9:30am. Players are required to come at least 1 day, but it's recommended that you come as many days as you can.
High School: This spring, the Utah Ultimate Disc Association (UUDA) is planning to implement a new format for spring league. Instead of coaches finding fields and setting times for games, game fields will be provided on a specific week night, and teams will come there and play the other high school teams on a predetermined schedule. This new system should be more organized and reduce the workload on the coaches. However, it will be more costly, unfortunately. Our sponsorship by Lashbrook Designs (below), however, offsets this additional cost. So your individual cost remains about the same as in the fall (but you won't need to buy a uniform if you already have one). We will still play in invitational tournaments and state as in previous years. The difference this year, if this new plan goes into effect, is that there will be no region tournament. Boys teams will be put into 2 divisions based on their performance during the season, and their will be 2 divisions for the state tournament. But all teams will play at state, according to the plan. If you want to see details of the plan so far, check out this Google Slideshow: 2018 UUDA Youth Spring Season Coaches Slideshow
Middle School: The middle school league will remain the same as in previous seasons with a tournament (maybe 2) in addition to the 2 day state middle school tournament. Coaches will schedule a few individual games leading up to the state tournament. There are also plans for a middle school league that runs in conjunction with Salt Lake County Adult Spring League, as in the past.
Lashbrook Designs Sponsorship
Lashbrook Designs is sponsoring Copper Hills Ultimate this season, and we'd like to send out a big thank you! Eric Laker is Tate and Thane's dad, and it is his company. We invite you to check out their website: https://www.lashbrookdesigns.com/ . Their sponsorship will allow us to keep our team fees that pay for our league and tournaments low.
