Hey all,
This is a little later than I had expected, but we're still working on firming up some team registrations. Assuming that no one drops, this will be the schedule for the tournament. Nothing is ever ideal, and I did my best to inconvenience everyone equally. Please note that I'd like to start at 1530 on Friday and we won't be done playing until 1945 that night; I like to make sure the kids have at least 30 minutes between games. If your games go quickly and you want to accelerate your schedule, that's fine so long as the other team agrees. Games cannot run long, though. Saturday will start at 0830 and run to 1615. Please take a look at the schedule for your team(s) and make sure I don't have you playing yourselves or playing the same team twice in pool play. I'll work on getting this entered on the UUDA score reporter, but it's not my best friend right now.

2019 HS Boys Daweena Captains’ and Coaches’ Packet
Fields
Legacy Event Center
151 S 1100 W, Farmington, UT 84025
Link to Field Map and Directions: https://utahultimate.org/f/legacy-events-center
These are natural turf fields.
There is ample parking at the north end of the fields, and somewhat less parking at the southwest. The south lot is easiest to reach using an unnamed road immediately west of the Farmington Bay Youth Center on Clark Ln. The north lot is more accessible from the driveway west of the DMV.
Medical
The closest medical facility is The U of U Farmington Urgent Care Center, 165 North University Avenue, Farmington, UT 84025.
There will be an athletic trainer on site based out of Tournament Central from 30 minutes before play to the end of play both days.
Make sure to have copies of all players’ medical permissions with you so that we can provide treatment quickly in an emergency even if their guardians are not present.
Weather
Ultimate is an ALMOST all-weather sport, so long as the field owners will let us play. The exception is lightning. If lightning is detected in the area, you will hear three long blasts on the horn. Play will stop immediately, and players are directed to take shelter in the pavilion south of the fields until the lightning danger has passed. Play will resume with a new pull with the same score and time remaining as at the time play was interrupted if possible, or we will abbreviate/skip rounds as necessary.
If there are strong winds, I will send out runners to let teams know when tents and similar structures need to be taken down.
If we somehow exceed a heat index of 100 degrees, we will have to suspend play.
Rules of Play
Play will occur under the 11th edition of the USAU Rules of Ultimate (https://www.usaultimate.org/resources/officiating/rules/11th_edition_rules.aspx)
All players are responsible for knowing and abiding by the rules, including telling players who do not know a rule when an infraction has been committed against them. (In other words, if I foul you and you don’t notice, it’s my job to tell you.)
Calling a foul or other infraction is not bad spirit. Contesting a call is not bad spirit. Coaches and fans are strongly encouraged to allow players to have the experience of disagreeing without being disagreeable and resolving conflict independently.
Since we are playing short rounds, please abide as strictly as possible to the practice of pulling within 90 seconds of the previous score.
Procedures
Pool play will consist of five rounds of 65 minutes each with games played to 11 points. Each team will get one time-out per half and one floating time-out, maximum of two in a half, three in a game. Games will start at a single long blast from the horn. Mirror at half time (6 points). Maximum of ten minute half. Hard cap will come at 65 minutes; there will be no soft caps. Two blasts from horn will mark hard cap. Hard cap comes into effect at the end of the current scoring attempt; if the horn sounds between a score and a pull, the disc should be pulled as usual, and that will be the cap. If a game is tied at hard cap, the next point will determine the winner.
Bracket play games will be 75 minutes long, games to 15. Each team will have two time outs per half with no floaters. One horn starts the round, two horns ends it. Half will be at first team to 8. Mirror half. Maximum 15 minute half. Hard cap rules are the same.
Teams often wish to accelerate play during youth tournaments by shortening times between rounds, and you may do this by mutual agreement, but please remember that these players are young and many teams have very different numbers of subs. There should never be pressure on any team or player to go without the rest built into the schedule.
Facilities
There are bathrooms with running water on site at the west side of the fields.
We will provide water coolers on the fields and at tournament central. We will ask volunteers to help us keep jugs filled.
We will have standard field fare, such as pickles, bagels, bananas, and drink powders at tournament central. There are several restaurants north of the fields across Clark Ln for players/fans who want more substantial food. There is also a Harmon’s grocery store north of the fields across Clark Ln.
There is no shade at these fields, so teams and fans are encouraged to bring umbrellas and tents. Keep in mind that tents must be at least five meters away from all playing surfaces, not just the field your team is on. This can be hard to manage. Spectators should stay 5 meters from the field surface, and coaches and players should stay three meters back. I will ask volunteers to help with keeping sidelines clear for the safety of the players.
