Krakens Tournament Results
B Team gets their first win (over someone besides C Team), finishing with 2 wins and 1 loss. Well done, B Team! A Team finished 2-2 with tough losses to Krakens and Lone Peak A. C Team looked much better with a close loss against Judge Memorial HS. C Team scored more points than in any previous tournament. Many C Team players have been coming to practice, throwing and working hard and it shows!
Practice as usual: Thu 5-7, Sat 8am (Disc Golf - see below)
This is fall break, but we will still have practice at the normal time! Want to be more competitive at the state tournament? Get yourself to practice! AND...throw, throw, throw!
'Hole in 1 - Disc Golf and Donuts' : Sat 8-11am. HS/MS.
We'll take a fun break from the grind of practice and go to Taylorsville Regional Park for 18 holes of disc golf (and donuts!). Meet Park Village Park at 8am to carpool. We will start with a brief (20-30 min) workout and then hit the course. Bring an ultimate disc. This will take the place of our Saturday practice.
Fall 3000 Throw, throw, throw!
Getting out to throw consistently on your own is really going to make a difference in your game. Some of you had trouble entering it into the spreadsheet from your phone. To enter throws into the spreadsheet from your phone, you need to do it from the free Google Sheets app. You can also enter your throws on the web from a computer. It's ok to write your throws down on a piece of paper and then just enter them into the spreadsheet at the end of the season too. Click here to edit the spreadsheet . BIG hi-5s to Ben and Garrett who are already done! (double rewards for anyone who reach 6000!)
Pickup Ultimate: Optional. Tuesdays, 5pm at Park Village Park
Great chance to come and hone your ultimate skills, make your team better by making yourself better, and have some fun. No drills or ladders, just ultimate (or goaltimate if we only have a few people). If you are serious about making CH Ultimate a championship program, consider Tuesday pickup as mandatory, not optional. See you there.
Also, you have Thursday and Friday off this week. Come play lunchtime pickup with my group on those days! Let me know if you want to come. Lots of fun; lots of good practice!
Remaining Schedule:
10/21 8a 'Hole in 1 - Disc Golf and Donuts' activity.
10/19-20 Fall Recess. Lunchtime pickup anyone? Since you have a couple of days off school, let me know if you are interested in joining the lunchtime pickup games on these days. Would love to have you come play! Consider pickup on these no-school days as well: 10/13 (MS), 10/27 (HS), 11/3&10 (ES)
10/23 4p CHMS vs Riverton
10/27-28 UUDA Middle School Fall Tournament
10/28 Halloween Hat Tournament. This is a community event, not a HS event, so the charge for this tournament is not covered by our team fees (but it's usually only $10 for students). A hat tournament is a special ultimate tournament where everyone's name is thrown into a hat, and teams are chosen randomly. Then you will play 5 or 6 games with your team. For the Halloween Hat, you need to wear a costume and play in your costume. Tons of fun, and good practice. Proceeds from the tournament after field costs are paid are used to purchase equipment such as portable fields, shade tents, etc.
11/2 Intersquad Scrimmage. Each team will play 2 games:
5:15-6pm
CHA vs CHMS+Coaches
CHB vs CHC
CHC vs CHMS
6:15-7pm
CHA vs CHB+Coaches
11/9 6:30p (after practice) Team carb potluck dinner: fuel up for state tomorrow!
11/10-11 UUDA HS Utah Mixed State Championship. Tournament starts at noon Friday, so plan your classes accordingly.
12/1 Begin 2018 Registration.
Winter: We will continue to get together through the winter twice / week just to play ultimate (even in the snow). This will be unofficial practice but allow you to continue to get better and play.
Registrations: Thank you for taking care of registration & fees. They are slowly but surely being completed. Some of you still have stuff to do. Check this spreadsheet to see what you still have left to do. If you have questions or think the spreadsheet is incorrect, please contact me (coach).
Uniforms: We have received uniforms already and most of you have received them. I still have uniforms for Mason, Luca, and Caden Munk.
Clear your schedule for HS Mixed States (11/10-11) or MS Tournament (10/27-28) NOW!
Hopefully you've already cleared your schedule for this important tournament. If not, do it NOW. Get work off, get it on your family calendar now. I don't want to worry about whether we'll have enough players the day before.
UUDA MIDDLE SCHOOL TOURNAMENT DETAILS (SO FAR)
Coaches,
We are excited to get everyone together soon for some fall fun! All of the details for the Middle School Fall Classic are posted on theUUDA website. "Middle School" players can be in 5th-8th grades (not 9th - that is high school). Games will be held at the Salt Lake County Equestrian Center starting at 3:45 on Friday, and 9:00 on Saturday.
We are requiring all teams to commit one volunteer for a 2-hour block during the tournament. Please sign up for a position on the "Middle School Fall Classic" tab on the Tournament Volunteer Sign-Up sheet.
Team fees will be on a per/player basis. Please fill out the UUDA Tournament Registration form and use PayPal to send $15 per player in a lump sum via the "friends and family" option to pay@utahultimate.org. You may also send a check if needed to: UUDA, 3467 S Hazel Arlene Circle, Salt Lake City, UT 84106.
You will need all of your players to complete a Medical Authorization Form. You or another chaperone must have these forms available on site, in case of emergency.
We will be collecting Spirit of the Game scores from teams after each game! Please be prepared to submit scores on this online Spirit form. The final team lists are not set yet, so this is just a template for the time being. We will follow the World Flying Disc Federation's Spirit Scoring.
The tournament will be played on smaller fields - 90x35yd (15yd end zones), as opposed to full-sized 110x40yd (20yd end zones).
We are excited to see you all in a couple of weeks! Please register as soon as possible so that we can start building the game schedule. Thanks for all your work with these kids!
