We are very excited for the fall season! During fall season we compete in a mixed (coed) league, with 4 boys and 3 girls always on the field.
Thanks everyone who came to tryouts. It was awesome to see all of you there!
✯ Introduction of Coaches and Captains
✯ What can parents do?
Drive. We help driving to tournaments. Since we are not an official school sport, we do not get the benefit of a bus for transportation. We get to drive ourselves. We need help driving to and from games and tournaments and activities.
Chaperone. We are required to have a background-checked adult with each team at the tournaments. Often I am the only chaperone at tournaments, but we're really supposed to have 1 per team. The background check must be through USAU. Instructions for chaperones and getting a background check are here: http://www.usaultimate.org/chaperones/ Most of the other coaches who are helping me are recently graduated players and are not old enough (20) to act as a chaperone. We are counting on you, parents!
Help with gear. A shade tent is worth its weight in gold at a sunny or rainy (or snowy) tournament. We would be grateful to any parents who can bring one or send one with their child. Also, if you can bring extra water - either bottled or in a jug- or snacks to share - that would be helpful as well.
Help your son/daughter and other players register and pay.
Those are the items we most need help with, but we have other things we could use help with. Let me know if there are other ways you want to help! We really appreciate parents who step up to help out. And your child appreciates it too.
Costs. You can pay all fees to the coach via check, cash or paypal (ultimatechills@gmail.com), and I will pay your USA Ultimate fee for you to keep things simple. Or, you can pay the uniform and team fees to me and pay the USA ultimate fee on usaultimate.org.
*Team fee is only $10 for middle school players (MS players don't have as many games/tournaments) and players who paid for and participated in the Summer clinic
*USAU provides a fall discount for new players only. Choose ‘Youth Intro’ when you pay for your membership: https://play.usaultimate.org/members
*Uniforms are optional. Any light and navy blue or black shirt will work. The team also has loaner jerseys. However, almost all players opt to purchase a uniform. $35 for 2 jerseys and a pair of shorts is an estimate based on the cost of previous orders, but is subject to change. It would help me a lot if one of the parents could take over the ordering of uniforms for me this year. Let me know and I will get you the necessary info.
✯ Other team gear is available. Coach has $8 and $10 discs for sale. Danica Anderson, team captain, is putting in an order for team hoodies, hats, and other items. She also has locker / window stickers for $1. Contact them for details.
If any parents work for a company that would be willing to sponsor the team, it would really help out and I will adjust the budget accordingly. We will display the company logo on uniforms ordered during that season.
Gear.
Uniforms. will be ordered on 9/25. Get your order in to coach before then if you want a uniform. https://sites.google.com/site/chhsultimatedisc/store/uniform-order . Uniforms are optional. If you bring a white and dark colored shirt (navy blue if possible) to games, that is perfectly acceptable.
Water bottle. Bring one. To all practices and games. Usually there will be jugs to refill from, but make sure you bring a full bottle to refill. Ultimate is intense. Take care of your body and stay hydrated.
Cleats. Take care of your feet. You can get by with a pair of running shoes with knobby soles, but cleats are recommended. You can find good deals at Ross and sometimes at the Jordan Landing Nike store. Walmart also has cleats on clearance sometimes.
Snacks. Bring snacks and pack a lunch for tournaments. Tournaments usually provide bagels and fruit, but you should bring your own just in case. You burn a lot of fuel at an all-day tournament.
Sun protection. Hat, sunblock, sunglasses, and a shade tent / umbrella come in handy at tournaments. If any parents have a shade / rain tent they can bring to tournaments, we would be very grateful! Whether sunny or rainy, a shade tent is super-appreciated.
Cold weather gear. The weather is turning cold. Be prepared. Start bringing a jacket or long sleeve shirt to practice and games. As it gets colder you will probably want a beanie or headband to protect your ears from the cold. You may want to get gloves, especially in wet weather. Ultimate gloves or football receiver gloves are great, but expensive. Nitrile coated fabric work gloves coated with nitrile work for me and are about 1/10 the price of receiver gloves.
✯ Registration. For all players, high school, middle school, boys and girls. Take care of your registration ASAP. Please, please, please, get this done now so I don't have to bug you about it later.
This is the best thing you can do to make my job easier as coach. Follow the checklist below:
✯ The following players have completed registration and paid everything (as of this morning - if you paid me at practice today I haven't recorded it yet). Contact me if you're not sure what you're still missing:
