Christmas Party Friday 12/14
This Friday we will be having a team Christmas party at my house, 7898 S Goslin Ct (4730 W) at 5:30p. All players, elementary, middle school and high school - AND prospective players - are invited! That's right - if you have a sibling or friend who is might be interested in playing frisbee in the spring, but is not sure yet, bring them to the party!
Bring a white elephant gift to exchange (no more than $5). Bring a treat (preferably something somewhat healthy) to share as well! We'll be having pizza and playing some fun games. This is a frisbee party, so we'll spend a few minutes talking ultimate and for those who want to get the $5 discount and get their 2019 USAU registration out of the way, bring $33 and have your parent come with you so that when they drop you off they can complete the waiver with you.
Still playing!!!
A few of you know that we are still playing ultimate during the winter. BIG hi-5s to those who have been coming to play. We play Wednesday afternoons at 3:30 and Saturday mornings. Note that we are changing the time on Saturday from 8:30am to 9:30am because some of us have a hard time getting up on a Saturday ;-). See you Wednesday at 3:30!
We are looking at having a 3v3 hat tournament during Christmas break. But we need participation in order to make this successful. Come join us! Exact days and times TBA.
New Year's Day ultimate: there is a long standing tradition in Salt Lake of a young vs old ultimate game on New Year's Day at Sugarhouse Park. Referred to as the "Hair of the Dog", this is actually more of a glorified pickup game, but it's a lot of fun. Recently the young players have won a few more games, but historically the old guys win the vast majority of these games. Come show the old men how to play!
2019 USAU Registration
USAU registration for 2019 is open! In fact, they offer a $5 discount to anyone who registers for next year before Dec 31. You will still need to renew your league registration with utahultimate.org in the spring, but you can get half of the work out of the way now AND save $5. If you plan on playing next year, I urge you to get this done now. The USAU membership will be good for the entire 2019 calendar year. The discount code is YOUTHDEC. You can renew your membership here: https://play.usaultimate.org/members/pendingactions/ .
A number of players paid for both 2018 and 2019 this year. If you did, you will not need to pay a USAU fee in 2019 (league fees will still need to be paid). You will still need to sign the waiver and confirm that you are on the team in 2019. Players who have already paid their 2019 USAU fees are Hayden, Harrison, Tanner B, Brayden, Davide, and Nick.
Because we do not have sufficient numbers, our girls team will most likely combine with the Bingham girls team in the spring. Your registration process, though, is still the same.
State tournament results
There weren't any official standings after 8th place (https://utahultimate.org/e/utah-high-school-mixed-state-championship/standings). But by record, CHA finished 11th: https://utahultimate.org/e/utah-high-school-mixed-state-championship/standings/stage/all/division/Mixed . Congrats to CHB for a 3rd place finish in spirit scoring. The spirit scoring champion (Break Force) receives a tournament plaque just like the tournament champions. Most teams - including us - are so focused on winning the tournament that they don't set their eyes on good spirit, but this is something worth striving for. During this off-season, let's think of ways we can improve our spirit and build better camaraderie among all players in addition to putting in playing time on the field.
Fall & Winter 3000 & speed challenge
Congrats and big high-5s to Cassie and Ia who completed their fall 3000. I don't show that anyone completed the speed and stamina challenge. If anyone else completed either challenge, please enter your info so I can get you some swag: https://script.google.com/macros/s/AKfycby6jRZm07YcvCOEq1jF4EZU_sGyqZbp1vhexEPWAv4Pla8-1KI/exec
Winter 3000 challenge is on! This is a great way to get a leg up for the spring. I hope you will all take advantage of it. Remember that the speed / stamina challenge doesn't absolutely have to be outside. You can run your miles on a treadmill and run your ladders in a gym. In fact, if anyone have access to a church gym we could do a weekly speed workout during the winter to meet this challenge. Let me know.
