Fall Challenges
How many throws do you have so far? Who has been putting in miles? Remember that i have new swag - especially new discs, jerseys, headphones, field cones, gloves, etc for anyone who completes 1 of the fall challenges. Choose 2 swag items if you complete both. I can't stress enough how big of a difference this will make for you AND the team! Here are the challenges:
1) Throwing & catching: Throw 3000 throws outside of practice before Nov 9. This isn't as hard as it seems. It takes approx 8-10 hours of throwing. Over the course of a season that's pretty small. Although if you're just starting now, that is a lot of throws. But not only do you get swag, your game gets WAY better.
2) Speed & stamina: Complete all 4 tasks by Nov 9: 1) Run 100 miles 2) Run 100 ladders 3) 1000 Squats 4) 1000 calf-raises.
(coming soon: record your throws on your phone in the player info page (http://bit.ly/2O3m66K)
Tournament Results
Middle school played in the UUDA fall classic tournament over the weekend. We played well! The final results are here: http://utahultimate.org/e/middle-school-fall-classic/schedule/stage/126655 . On Friday we won 1 game but lost to the 1st place team, Cache Valley. Unfortunately on Saturday we were missing a lot of players - we only had 1 sub. That proved to be our undoing. Game 1 Saturday we lost to the Squirrels 7-5 in the last few minutes of the game. Game 2 Saturday we were ahead 6-3 with only 10 minutes left, but our kids were just too tired to stop the Magpies from coming back to tie the game before the horn and forcing an overtime point. We lost 7-6. The Magpies ended up finishing 3rd. In our final game we lost to the Krakens 11-3. We just didn't have anything left in the tank. The Krakens were the team we had beat Friday. If we had our same team there Saturday that we had Friday, we most likely would have won all 3 Saturday games and finished no worse than 3rd, with a good chance of playing in the championship game.
A big shout-out to everyone who played, especially those players who were there for the whole tournament. I think we learned and grew quite a bit. I think we have a good shot at winning the league tournament on 10/25 if we're all there!
Items of Note From our Future Schedule:
Middle school has 1 game this week and a league playoff remaining this season. I believe we have a legitimate shot to win the playoff!
I encourage you to keep coming to practice! I received a disc for each MS player who is payed and registered. I can still get you a disc if you register within the next week or so.
10/18: The OC coach and I decided to cancel the 10/18 MS game because it is fall break.
10/16: Next Tuesday we have planned a 3v3 tournament (just our team) for everyone, HS & MS. This will be our practice. We will be starting at 4 that day.
10/18: CHA is scheduled to play CHB. This is also fall break. We will be having an intersquad scrimmage at PVP at 5p. No need to go to the Equestrian park this day! CHA vs CHB+coaches, CHUMS vs new HS players
10/26-27 LPI HS Tournament. I was able to get in 1 team for this tournament. This will be our Copper Hills A Team. However, for any B Team players who attend the tournament and want to play with the A Team, I will ensure that you get some game time. I can't say how much game time, but we will get you in to play more than 1 point. You can also learn much by watching and get a lot of throws in on the sidelines. It would be beneficial for you to be there.
For anyone interested in a girls 4 on 4 beach ultimate tournament in Santa Monica in January, Sky View (Logan) is taking a team. Here are the details: beach ultimate
