Why simple Wins

Why Simple Wins, Escape the Complexity Trap and Get to Work That Matters,  by Lisa Bodell, Bibliomotion 2016

I can think of several bureaucracies - a hospital and several corporations -  that value complexity - they would score very high (on the wrong axis) on Lisa Bodell's five-page "Do We Value Complexity or Simplicity Test".

The solutions to an addiction to complexity, however, are just as scary as asking a hoarder to clear out a small room - makes sense, will feel good later, but oh the anxiety this kind of radical change induces.

Nevertheless,  Bodell wades into the problem and offers clear and powerful approaches, checklists and illustrations, including "Five Steps to Simplicity," all covered extensively in her change-maker prep.  She even offers advice that the whole process be delegated to an empowered team charged with asking  these questions:

1.  Is it valuable?

2.  Is it minimal?

3.  Is it understandable?

4.  Is it repeatable?

5.  Is it accessible?

If your organization is one that has not yet slimmed down and eliminated tedious loop-backs and repeats and stalls, you will find this book a great starting point.
