Directions - Skyward - Grade Weight Options (HS)

At the High School you can set your gradebook to calculate overall grades using total points or you can choose categories of assignments and assign each a percentage to be weighed into the overall grade.

If your student's overall grades are an F, despite getting passing grades on assignments, the problem is likely that the grading category is still set to the default weight of 0%. Follow directions below to assign a weight to the grade categories you are using.

Step 1

Do you have grading set up correctly in a class and wish to apply the setup to all other classes?

If YES: Open the gradebook for that class, select 'Categories' from the menu, and skip ahead to Step 6 of these directions.
If NO: Open Gradebook for any class you wish to adjust, select 'Categories' and continue with Step 2 of these directions.

Step 2

If you know your class is already set to the type of grading you want (total points or weighted grades) then you can skip ahead to Step 3.
If you need to change or check the type of grading, select the 'Change Score Method' button at the right. Then choose between the three 'Score Methods' (described below) and select the 'Save' button.

'Use total points to calculate grades' - Assignment weight will be based on its points compared to total points in the grading period. If you choose this option you will not be weighing grades and so can proceede to setp 6..
'Base Grades on percents assigned to categories' - You select grade categories and assign the percentage that category should have when calculating an overall grade for your class. Each time you create a new assignment you will need to assign it to a grade category.
Base Grades on percents assigned to categories by Grade Period. - This allows for assigning different weight categories each grading period.

Step 3

If you've selected to 'Use total points to calculate grades' then you can skip to Step 6 in these directions.
If you selected to 'Base grades on percents...' you may need to adjust the weight of each category. Start that process by selecting the 'Add/Edit Categories' button at the right.

Step 4

Place a checkmark in the 'Include' column for each category you want to be able to use when creating assignments. Note: The 'Select All' or 'Unselect All' buttons at top can speed up this process.

Step 5

In the 'Modified Percent' column, type in the percentage weight you want given to each grade category you have selected. Set all your percentage weights so the 'Modified Percent Allocated' field at the top shows 100%. Select the 'Save' button when your adjustments are complete.

Step 6

If you want grading set up the same in all your classes, select the 'Use These Categories For My Other Classes' button.
If you want grading set up differently in other classes you will have to repeat these directions in each of those classes.
