Extensions add features to Chrome. Chrome is Google's web browser that is used to access the internet as well as all Google products including Docs, Classroom, and Slides. Basically anything Google is accessed through Google Chrome so adding an extension can add capabilities to all those products
Step 1
Search for an Extension
A. Go to the Chrome Web Store at chromewebstore.google.com
B. Select the 'Extensions' tab to make sure you are browsing for Extensions.
C. Browse the categories of extensions on the left side or use the search bar at top to search for extensions by name or general description.
Step 2
Load the Extension
A. Select the extension you wish to add.
B. Scroll through the extension's features if you want.
C. Select the 'Add to Chrome' button. (The button will read 'Remove from Chrome' if the extension is already added.
D. Select the 'Add extension' button if you are comfortable with the access to data that it gives. Be aware that YOU are responsible for making sure apps meet FERPA, COPPA, and CIPA requirements of data privacy for your students. If you question the access, select the 'Cancel' button and then select the 'Submit Help Desk Ticket' button at the bottom of the page to a request review of the software.
Step 3
Manage the Extension
A. Select the 'extensions' icon (puzzle piece) at the top right of Chrome.
B. Scroll to find the extension you want to manage.
C. Select the 'three dots' icon to access the extension's options and settings which will be different for each extension. Consider using this menu to turn off extensions when not in use because each extension requires more processing from Chrome which slows it down.
D. Select the 'push pin' icon to add/remove the extension icon to the 'extensions bar' so you have quick access.
