High School occasionally have classes for which the students grades calculate to an F as a final report card grade even if their assignments were all passing.
The High School gradebook allows teachers to place their assignments into any one of dozens of grade categories. Those grade categories can be weighed so a category can contribute a higher percentage towards a final grade no matter how many points the assignments in that category add up to be. The default setting for the grade category weights is 0%. If a student scored 10/10 on an assignment that is in a category weighed at 0% it will not contribute any points to a final grade. If all grade categories are set to 0% then the student cannot gain any points and will not achieve the 60% needed to pass. So, every assignment may show the student scored perfectly and received an A but the final grade will remain an F.
Set grade weights.
Changing the grade weights will not adjust the score on the assignments but will tell Skyward how to calculate a final grade. That setting will remain for the class going forward unless you adjust it.
If you are changing grades for a previous semester you will need to have the grading window reopened so you can make those edits. Use the 'Helpdesk' button below to request the window be reopened.
Follow directions on the Grade Weight Options page to set grade weights.
Check other classes to see if you need to weight grade categories for those as well.
Post Grades. If you do not repost, your gradebook will look right but the student's final grade as reported to the office will still be an F. If report cards or transcripts have already been shared you should consider notifying students in the classroom they should request updated materials.
