Google Meet allow you to have video conversations with others. It is software suggested for use during parent-teacher conferences. These directions explain how to start a meeting but not how to access all the features Google Meet offers.
Step 1
Open Chrome
A. Open the App Menu (sometimes called the Waffle Iron Menu) found at the top right of the screen.
B. in the menu that appears, find and select the Meet app icon.
Step 2
New Meeting
A. If you have a join code for a meeting that is already created enter it into the 'Enter a Code...' field and select Join. You will be given a chance to check your camera settings before entering the meeting. Depending on how the host set up the meeting there may be other directions you need to follow.
B. If you are starting a new meeting, select the 'New Meeting' button.
Step 3
Set up the Meeting
A. If you are setting up the meeting for later (up to 90 days) you should select 'Create a meeting for later'
B. If you would like the meeting started now you should select the 'Start an instant meeting' option.
Step 4
Invite Others
If you selected 'Start and instant meeting' in the preceding step you will see your camera view and your menu of options for the meeting. If you selected 'Create a meeting for later' the screen will not show your camera view. Either options you selected will show a box with directions for accessing the meeting that you will need to share with others you want to attend. A. One option is to select the 'Add Others' button to select from your contacts or type in an email address of an individual you would like to invite to the meeting. It will send them the meeting contact information.
B. The second option is to select the copy icon (two overlapped rectangles) and paste the information into an email or other document you send to those you would like to join.
Remember your laptop, and some other devices, have a physical switch that allows you to block the camera's view. On your laptop it is in the top-middle, above your screen. Slide it to the right and you can see a red cover slide over the camera lens. Slide it to the left to unblock the camera view. Keep in mind, this cover only blocks the camera, not the microphone, so people in your meeting will still hear your voice when you have the camera blocked.
