Brisk is an Artificial Intelligence tool for creating a wide variety of teaching resources. Brisk is different from most because it is a Chrome extension. Like all extensions, its software is added to your Chrome web browser. Because of that it can interact with webpages and quickly build resources associated with any site you access.
Step 1
Download the Brisk Extension
Go to briskteaching.com
A. Select the button in the menu to 'ADD TO CHROME FOR FREE'. The button will bring you to the Chrome Web Store. Alternatively you may want to follow directions on Extensions.
B. In the Chrome Web Store, select the blue 'Add to Chrome' button.
C. In the Window that opens, select the 'Add extension' button to confirm you agree to give Brisk data access.
Step 2
Setup Brisk Account
A. Select the box to place a checkmark when you agree with the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
B. Select the 'Continue with Google' button.
C. In the window that opens, choose your school district account to create the account
D. In the window that opens, select the 'Continue' if you are comfortable with Brisk using the data associated with your Google account. If you are not, select ' Cancel' and return to step B to create an account using your email address.
E. Select the '-->Start Setup' button and answer the Setup questions that follow. You will be asked to 'Pin' Brisk to the toolbar which may be helpful but it is optional. You will also be asked to invite others in the district to use Brisk. You can skip that step by selecting the 'Skip' button at the bottom left. The setup process also brings you through a short tutorial.
Step 3
Turn Brisk On/Off
Extensions need to be turned on in the extensions manager but having too many extensions on may slow down your web browser.
A. Select the Brisk icon to toggle it on and off. In the Brisk Setup (Step 2-E) you were prompted to add Brisk to the extension bar. If you chose to do that you should see the Brisk icon at the top right of your web browser. If you did not add it to the extension bar you will have to select the extension icon, shaped like a puzzel piece and find the Brisk icon in the menu that opens. Notice when you select it, a Brisk icon appears at the bottom of the page when Brisk is on and disappears when it is off.
Step 4
Using Brisk
A. Select the Brisk icon at the bottom right of the screen. Note that everything in your Google Drive is viewed through the Chrome Web Browser so Brisk can be used on any Google Document, not just websites.
B. The window that appears has categories of resources (explained below) but there are far too many activities to provide directions here. Brisk gives clear guidance through the process. Select one of the categories to view the list of activities available.
-Select 'Create' to be shown a list of resources you may want automatically created for your class,
-Select 'Boost Student Activity' for a list of interactive activities using the website. Note: You will be given options to share with students so they can access the resource on their Chromebooks.
-Select 'Give Feedback' to create feedback on the resource (usually used with student work).
-Select 'Change Level' to copy content of the website into a Google Doc after adjusting to a different reading level.
Step 5
Returning to Brisk
When you access brisk you see a window similar to the one in the image.
A. Select the back pack icon to see any resources you created.
B. Select the paper clip icon to import a resource you would like to import like a grading rubric.
C. Select the ... icon to set preferences and other administrative tasks.
