Filters are what teachers should use to allow a website if it has been blocked by default but set up to give the teacher the ability to grant access. These are sites that have an educational purpose but are often overused by students at inappropriate times such as game based learning sites. Filters can also be used to block the sites that students can access by default. Filter settings will only apply to students in your selected class until you change the filter settings, but only for the time they are in your classroom.
Teachers can use the 'helpdesk' button below to request a blocked URL be allowed for all students or put on the list individual teachers are able to allow.
Teachers may want to follow directions to 'Create an Outline' and 'Apply an Outline' if they want a filtering system they can apply to multiple classes or during specific situations.
Step 1
Open Aristotle Filter Settings
A. Login to Aristotle and select the 'Filter Settings' icon at the top of the page.
Step 2
List URLs to Block
A. If you have sites to block, select the 'Blocked Sites' tab, otherwise skip to 'Step 3'.
B. Type in the URL of the website you wish to block.
C. Select the 'Block' button and the URL should appear in the list of 'Blocked Sites' below.
D. select the trash can button next to a URL if you wish to remove it from the list of 'Blocked Sites'.
E. Continue on to 'Step 3' if you have sites you wish to allow otherwise you can select the X to closeout this menu.
Step 3
List URLs to Allow
Check this document to look up and copy the URL of a site you want to unblock. If your site is not on the list then you will not be able to unblock it on your own but you can select the 'Helpdesk' button at the bottom of the page and request that the site be added to the 'allowed' or 'teacher permission' list
A. If you have sites to block, select the 'Allowed Sites' tab.
B. Paste or type in the URL of the website you wish to allow.
C. Select the 'Allow' button and the URL should appear in the list of 'Allowed Sites' below.
D. select the trash can button next to a URL if you wish to remove it from the list of 'Allowed Sites'.
E. Select the X to closeout this menu.
