SCQF level 4 and 5


COURSE CONTENT

Pupils will have the opportunity to either achieve a whole course award at level 4 or level 5 in Mental Health and Wellbeing or units only. Pupils will then have the opportunity to lead Mental Health and Wellbeing initiatives within the school such as Mental Health Week, Support groups and Fundraising events.

The course is as follows:

Unit One: Understanding Mental Health Issues

-an understanding of the range of mental health issues

- an understanding of the history of mental health and the stigma attached

- an insight into how mental health is portrayed in the media

- develop an understanding of the brain’s role in mental health

Unit Two : Influences on Mental Health and Wellbeing :

- develop an understanding of the social, personal, environmental and cultural influences on mental health through case studies

-develop an understanding of the impact of social media and technology on mental health

Unit Three: Coping Strategies and Building Resilience:

- developing an understanding of growth mindset and resilience and the impact on mental health

-develop an understanding of self-care and coping strategies

-the barriers to accessing support

-the range of formal and informal supports on offer
