What will you learn?
Throughout this course, candidates develop and extend their knowledge and understanding of music concepts and music literacy. They learn to recognise, distinguish and apply level-specific music concepts, signs and symbols as they perform, create and listen to music. The course allows candidates to develop and consolidate practical skills in music and knowledge and understanding of music styles and concepts. It encourages them to self-reflect and explore their creative ideas. Understanding music through listening and analysing enables candidates to build on and extend their knowledge and understanding of music and influences on music.
Why do this course?
The course provides candidates with a broad practical experience of performing, creating and understanding music. It enables them to work independently or in collaboration with others, and can help them to plan and organise, to make decisions, and to take responsibility for their own learning
What will you experience?
A wide range of learning and teaching strategies will be used such as whole class, paired and/or group work. Work in class will be supported by classroom materials, ICT and specific web sites. Pupils will be involved in setting their own targets and evaluating their own as well as others progress. Pupils will be expected to take responsibility for their learning.

Homework
Homework will be set by the class teacher on a regular basis, this will be available on TEAMs. Activities set may include practice of a practical skill, preparation for assessment or research for an assignment.
Assessment
Three elements will make up your overall assessment:
Component 1: Question Paper 40 marks
(1 hour and 15 minutes (approximately)
Component 2: Assignment 20 marks
The assignment allows candidates to explore and develop musical ideas to create music. It has three parts:
composing or arranging one piece of music reviewing the creative process of their composition or arrangement analysing a chosen piece of music)
Component 3: performance exam 50 marks
The total performance time for both instruments must be a minimum of 18 minutes and must not exceed 20 minutes.

Entry is at the discretion of the Principal Teacher Faculty, Performing Arts. However, as a guide:
