Business Management

Why do this course?

The aim of this course is to provide pupils with a broad range of business skills covering Level 4 experiences and outcomes. These will include:

  • How and why businesses develop and operate in today’s society.

  • Evaluating and examining external factors and their impact on individuals, businesses and Communities.

  • The role of business and entrepreneurship within society.

What will you learn?

The course will provide pupils with the opportunity to develop higher order thinking skills, collecting, processing, comparing and evaluating information as well as enterprise and employability. These are important skills for life, learning and work. There will be opportunities to use and develop skills in ICT, literacy and numeracy also.

Pupils will have developed a deeper knowledge of the different roles within business by the end of the course.

A wide range of learning and teaching strategies are used with classes, such as developing critical thinking skills, direct teaching, paired and/or group work. Work in class is supported through the use of notes, ICT and other digital media.

Practical experiences will be used to demonstrate aspects of the course and provide examples. Pupils will be involved evaluating their own and others progress. Pupils are expected to take responsibility for their learning.

Homework

Homework will be set by the class teacher on a regular basis to reinforce the work covered in class with emphasis put on the need to meet submission dates and deadlines. Homework may involve further study of work covered in class, preparation for assessments or research assignments.

Assessment

Knowledge and skills will be assessed in different ways, depending on the topic being studied. This will include project work, classroom tests, and assessed work/homework.

Pupils will collect a folio of work which will act as evidence to demonstrate their administrative skills and knowledge.

Progression

Pupils that do S3 BGE Business Management can progress to National 4/5 Business Management in S4, then to Higher and possibly Advanced Higher in S6.

The course also offers possible progression to N4/5 Admin & IT and Accounting.
