What will you learn?

There are two areas of study: Design and Expressive. These are intended to give a broad experience of art and design and allow pupils to develop a multitude of versatile skills throughout their work. Developing their visual understanding and learn how to express themselves visually. This experience is enhanced by learning about Artists and Designers work to support pupils in developing their personal style and critical analysis.

The course will allow pupils to develop a range of skills. Through each of the outcomes/portfolios they will have the opportunity to interact and experiment with a range of media. This will involve both practical methods and utilising technology as use of media. Analytical and Critical reflection of Art and design works.

Why do this course?

This course is for students who enjoy being creative and using materials and techniques to produce samples. Skills gained in this course would help learners gain entry to apprenticeships, further study or careers such as; Design, Illustration and Fine Art.

National 4/5 is for those who wish to pursue this as a career and for those who enjoy the course content and wish to develop their skills

What will you experience?

The Art and Design experience throughout National to Advanced Higher allows students to build and create a portfolio of work that showcases the skills and techniques they have developed through design and expressive units.

Assessment

National 4 Art and Design - The course consists of three mandatory Units:

  • Expressive unit

  • Design unit

  • Added Value Unit Added Value Unit

National 5 Art and Design - The course assessment has three components.

  • Expressive portfolio 100 marks 40%

  • Design portfolio 100 marks 40%

  • Question paper 50 marks 20%

Homework

Homework will be set by the class teacher on a regular basis, this will be available on TEAMs.

All resources and materials will be supplied through the school.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Entry is at the discretion of the Principal Teacher Faculty, Art, Design & Technologies. However, as a guide:

  • A recommendation on completion of BGE S3 Art & Design course.

  • Completion of National 5 Graphic Communication or National 5 Design & Manufacture

*Entry available with no experience on discussion with Principal Teacher, Faculty.
