At the beginning of the course students will select which route they want to specialise within; Design or Expressive. They will spend the year working on this area of specialism within their chosen media and theme. Students will explore how to experiment within a specific theme to deliver a clear message and provoke thought.
Students will also develop skills in critical analysis. Learning how to discuss key pieces of work relating to their specialism with terminology.
This course is for students who enjoy being creative and using materials and techniques. Skills gained in this course would help learners gain entry to apprenticeships, further study or careers such as; Design, Illustration, Architecture and Fine Art.
The Art and Design experience throughout National to Advanced Higher allows students to build and create a portfolio of work that showcases the skills and techniques they have developed through design and expressive units.

Homework will be set by the class teacher on a regular basis, this will be available on TEAMs.
The majority of resources and materials will be supplied through the school. As students projects are all individualised they may have to purchase one off items or personal materials.
A pass at Higher Art & Design or Higher Graphic Design (with recommendation) will be required to study this course.
