Foundation Apprenticeships

Bringing education closer to industry. Foundation Apprenticeships give school pupils a taste of the world of work and help employers shape future talent. Pupils can do a Foundation Apprenticeship as one of their senior subject choices. Pupils will get the chance to learn in a real workplace and develop the new skills future employers need.  Foundation Apprenticeships are available at SCQF Level 6 or Level 4/5.

Level 4 & 5 Foundation Apprenticeships

Aberdeenshire Council are working in partnership with Skills Development Scotland to introduce Foundation Apprenticeships at Levels 4 and 5.

At Kemnay Academy we are able to offer courses within Automotive @ level 4  and Construction @ level  5.

These courses will either be delivered in school alongside their timetable.

Level 6 Foundation Apprenticeships

What are the benefits?

A FA is the same level of learning as a Higher (SCQF6). The difference is that pupils are assessed throughout the year, so there’s no final exam.  In addition to the coursework, pupils attend an extended work placement which will give them technical workplace knowledge, plus confidence, communication and teamwork skills.

What can I do with my FA?

Foundation Apprenticeships can progress onto Modern Apprenticeships, further college courses, university or into employment.  For related degrees Foundation Apprenticeships are also recognised by Universities as a Higher at Grade B.

What FA can I do?

There are 12 Foundation Apprenticeships at SCQF Level 6.

Kemnay Academy supports 3 models of delivery of foundation apprenticeships:
