Modern Languages for Work Unit
This course has no exam and is internally assessed.

You will develop your employability skills by learning how to look for and apply for jobs, this will be done in the context of applying for Summer Jobs abroad and will involve looking at and learning how to respond to job adverts in the foreign language.
You will learn how to hold short conversations on the themes of society and culture, teaching you how to get by when meeting people for the first time when living abroad.
You will build your employability skills by learning how to complete CVs in a foreign language and how to prepare for a job interview.
You will learn how to converse professionally in the foreign language by taking part in a short job interview.
Alongside this, you will learn about the world of work in foreign countries and various cultural aspects of life there.
We will also look at transactional language which would help you survive while living abroad for the first time, such as:
Shopping
Ordering Food
Asking for Directions
Using Transport
Opening a bank account
At the Hospital & Emergency language
This course will allow you to continue studying a language at a level which best suits you.
The course will be very flexible and will aim to get you as wide a range of qualifications as possible.
Studying French, German and / or Spanish will improve your English and make travel more fun.
In addition, the course will include work around Employability and therefore will improve your skills for work as well as those which you'll require to apply for jobs when you leave school.
This is a flexible course. The languages studied will be decided by the pupils.
Options will be French, German and Spanish and they will be studied at the level best suited to their needs. This is likely to be Level 4, but the course can be adapted to suit learners who would be better suited to Level 3 qualifications.
We may also be able to offer learners on this course qualifications at National 3 or National 4 level in one or more language should they be suited to completing additional assessments in Reading & Writing.

You will be assessed as follows for each unit:
Building Own Employability Skills
Ongoing assessment - Pass or Fail.
Modern Languages for Life Unit
1 x Listening Assessment
1 x Talking Assessment (straightforward conversation of around 3 minutes related to society & culture).
Modern Languages for Work
1 x Listening Assessment
1 x Talking Assessment (straightforward job related conversation of around 3 minutes).
This course is suitable for all learners who studied any language course in S3, particularly those who studied S3 Languages for Life.
Learners who did not study a language in S3 but are keen to return to language learning in S4/5/6 are also welcome on this course.
Homework will be set by the class teacher on a regular basis, this will be available on TEAMs.

National 3 or 4 in a language other than the language studied.
The study of languages develops vocationally valuable skills which can help keep career opportunities open.
