What will you learn?

There are two areas of study; Design and Expressive. These are intended to give a broad experience of art and design and allow pupils to develop a multitude of versatile skills throughout their work. Developing their visual understanding and learn how to express themselves visually.

The course will allow pupils to develop a range of skills. Through each of the Units/Portfolios they will have the opportunity to interact and experiment with a range of media. This will involve both practical methods and utilising technology as use of media. Analytical and Critical reflection of Art and Design works.

  • General drawing skills

Why do this course?

This course is for students who enjoy being creative and using materials and techniques to produce samples. Skills gained in this course would help learners gain entry to apprenticeships, further study or careers such as; Design, Illustration and Fine Art.

What will you experience?

The Art and Design experience throughout National to Advanced Higher allows students to build and create a portfolio of work that showcases the skills and techniques they have developed through design and expressive units.

Assessment

Higher Art and Design - The course assessment has three components.

  • Expressive portfolio 100 marks 38.5%

  • Design portfolio 100 marks 38.5%

  • Question paper 60 marks 23%

Homework

Homework will be set by the class teacher on a regular basis, this will be available on TEAMs.

The majority of resources and materials will be supplied through the school. As students projects are all individualised they may have to purchase one off items or personal materials.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Entry is at the discretion of the Principal Teacher Faculty, Art, Design & Technologies. However, as a guide:

  • A pass at National 5 Art & Design.

  • Completion of another National 5 subject form within the faculty.

*Entry available with no experience on discussion with Principal Teacher, Faculty.
