Wider Achievement

What is Wider Achievement?

Wider Achievement is an important aspect of Curriculum for Excellence. It refers to learning opportunities beyond the classroom and curriculum subjects that give students the opportunity to develop important transferable skills for learning, life and work. Skills such as leadership, planning, teamwork, problem solving, creative thinking, communication and decision making are important as students apply for training, college, university or jobs after leaving school.

Wider Achievement also allows young people to have experiences and opportunities beyond the normal school subject curriculum that develop self-confidence and self-belief, as well as helping them to grow as young adults and prepare them for life beyond school. Additionally, many of our Wider Achievement courses allow for further accreditation such as SQA awards or units, or Saltire Awards.

At  the point of subject choice, S5 pupils will be asked to give an indicative choice of their WA preferences.  S4/5 pupils will then confirm their WAs on completion of the subject choice process for their full course awards.

Please note that decisions about which programme will run will depend on uptake so it may be that we have to come back to you to select again if numbers are low for your choices.
