WA SQA Leadership Award

AWARD

SQA Leadership Award at SCQF level 5 or 6

COURSE CONTENT

This course allows pupils to complete their SQA Leadership Award by participating in a project of their choice within the school. This course will take two periods each week.

The qualification consists of 2 units. The first unit will take you through research into leadership, including what good leadership looks like, what skills and qualities you need to have to be an effective leader, and an analysis of different leadership styles. You will also look at some famous leaders before assessing your own capabilities as a leader.

In the second unit you will undertake a project in the field of your choosing, where you will be required to:

1) Plan an activity

2) Lead and implement the activity

3) Review the activity

This project can be on anything you feel passionate about and want to raise awareness of. In the past we have had pupils lead programmes of work on Good Study Habits, The Impact of Energy Drinks, Mental Health Awareness, Anti-Bullying, and Sustainability. For others, their project has involved leading an inter-house or extra-curricular activity. Other options might include running a community engagement project or running a virtual event. If you have taken up a Captain Role within the school the project you undertake for this role could also be used in this programme. The choice really is yours. You can work alone or in groups and you will be supported to bring your ideas to fruition.
