What will you learn?
People and Society aims to study themes within a range of social subjects, allowing for personalization and choice throughout.
Unit 1: Investigation Skills
With this course learners can exercise personalization and choice to select their topic/theme for the unit. This year the topic was Explorers where the class investigated several explorers through history and the consequences of their discoveries.
Learners will use a range of sources to show investigation skills. Showing their knowledge and understanding of people and society to give basic, factual descriptions relating to a theme, issue or topic from the perspective of two social subject disciplines
Unit 2: Compare and Contrast
Unit supports personalization and choice for the learners. This year we compared Antarctica to Mount Everest, looking at location, animals, population and climate.
Learners will develop routine skills of using information to compare and contrast. Learners will develop these skills through choosing, with support, key ideas for study which will allow them to acquire basic knowledge and understanding of people and society.
Unit 3: Making Decisions
Unit supports personalization and choice for the learners. This year the learners are making the decision of whether conditions for soldiers have improved from World War I and the war in Afghanistan.
Learners will develop routine skills of using information to make decisions and develop a basic knowledge and understanding of aspects of People and Society. Learners will use these skills and draw on their basic knowledge and understanding of a topic or issue in an inter-disciplinary way, from the perspective of at least two of the social subjects.
Learners will also have the opportunity to complete units or courses in History, Geography, Modern Studies and RMPS at National 3.

Assessment
There is no external assessment for this Course. Learners must successfully complete each Unit to achieve the Course. The Units are internally assessed by centers and externally verified by SQA
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Entry is at the discretion of the Principal Teacher Faculty, Humanities. However, as a guide:
A pass a the previous NQ level. i.e. for National 5, a pass at National 4.
A recommendation on completion of BGE S3 Course
