Why do this course?

Do you enjoy music? Do you enjoy using technology creatively? This Music Technology course is for pupils who would like to gain more experience in the technology element of creating music-based projects. Pupils will develop technical skills when learning how to use various sound equipment to create, record and manipulate sound through their projects. Use of this equipment will come with practice and great responsibility. This course not only gives pupils the opportunity to develop their digital and creative skills, but they will also build upon their teamwork and personal skills in a creative setting. This course would provide pupils with invaluable experience for careers like a record producer, sound technician, music editor, music producer, video game composer and many more!

What will you experience?

There will be a variety of projects for pupils to experience in this creative setting such as radio broadcasts, sound design for film/gaming/animation, studio recording and adverts. Pupils will also have the opportunity to gain knowledge and understanding of the terminology in this area of performing arts which will add to the quality of the projects they are creating. Pupils will also witness and experience the skills they are learning in a real-life situation outside of school.



What will you learn?

There will be three main elements to this course:

  • Technology Skills - pupils will learn to how to use microphones, interfaces, DAW software and other equipment. They will learn the terminology of these pieces of equipment as well as sound concepts.

  • Technology in Context – pupils will apply their technology skills when creating various projects. These projects will include making a radio broadcasting show, creating sounds for either a film, computer game or animation of their choice, recording instruments for a song of their choice, and creating adverts.

  • Understanding Skills – pupils will learn about the musical aspects of 20th and 21st Century genres and how they have distinct sounds because of the evolution of technology during this time.

Homework

Homework will be set by the class teacher on a regular basis, this will be available on TEAMs. Activities set may include practice of a practical skill, preparation for assessment or research for an assignment.

Assessment

Knowledge and practical skills will be assessed in a variety of ways depending on the unit of study. This will include project work, classroom tests (theory and practical) and peer assessments. Pupils will use assessment feedback to set achievable short-term targets.
