Luxemburg-Casco School District prepares for ownership of new Middle School

The Luxemburg-Casco School District is preparing to take ownership of its new Middle School – a major portion of the district’s referendum projects. Many of the on-site contractors are in the process of finishing up their tasks.

Work on the new fitness center, located at front of the existing High School building, essentially was finished last week. All of the equipment has been installed. The fitness room features the L-C Spartan logo prominently on both the equipment and rubberized flooring.

The polished concrete floors throughout the classrooms and corridors of the new Middle School building are 85 percent completed. Remaining areas to finish include the front entrance lobby, library and LGA. Installation of carpet tile and luxury vinyl tile (LVT) also remains.

The glass, front entrance will be installed this week. Last week the concrete was poured and smoothed for the front stoop and other entrances.

Interior doors are in the process of being hung. Installation of door locks will begin in the coming days as well.

Many of the classrooms are finished, excluding small items like floor baseboard. In the classrooms and lab areas, the cabinetry largely is installed, with the exception of the countertops.

Installation of the ceiling tiles has been completed in the majority of the Middle School. Remaining work is in the administrative offices of the High School and Middle School at the front of the building.

Work on the combined kitchen for the High School and Middle School continues. The new cooler and freezers are operational and food items already are being stored.

The Middle School’s exterior brick work is approximately 80 percent completed. The east and south sides are entirely finished. Masons from The Boldt Company presently are working on the west side, leading up to the building’s front entrance.

“SMA Construction Services really has helped us to stay on schedule,” says Nexus Solutions Project Manager Mike Frailing, who is overseeing work on the L-C referendum projects. “All of the contractors have done well.

“H.J. Martin and Son has done a nice job in getting the polished concrete floors completed. They also were flexible in jumping around to install the ceilings. They are a great contractor to work with.”

Cleaners will start on June 3 to prep the Middle School for move-in. On June 16, professional movers will be moving large and packed items from the former Middle School in Casco into the new Middle School. Over the four-day period from June 15-19, new furniture is scheduled for delivery to the new building.

Construction trailers will be moved off of the job site later this month, and work on grading the terrain, along with the installation of new asphalt pavement, will follow. Landscaping will take place as the grading and asphalt work is completed.

The football practice field will be graded first by J Jadin Trucking & Excavating of Luxemburg. Once graded, District Groundskeeper Jesse Blohowiak immediately will seed it for grass.
