REFERENDUM 2018 | Meeting Educational Needs of Today and Tomorrow

After months of planning and consideration, including extensive engagement with the community, the Luxemburg-Casco School Board voted to place two referenda questions on the APRIL 3rd ballot:

Question #1

Requests funding (not to exceed $15.9 million) for building additions, remodels and other improvements at the Primary, Intermediate and High School (which includes a three-station gymnasium).

Question #2

Requests funding (not to exceed $11.9 million) for a new Middle School at the south end of the High School. This would accommodate relocating 7th and 8th grade classes from the existing Casco Middle School and utilizing it as an Alternative High School.

These questions aim to address overdue needs of the District, and the Board believes our community is ready to support the safety, educational and athletic facility improvements the District needs to meet the high educational standards expected from its schools.

The plan being presented to voters on April 3rd reflects fiscal responsibility for taxpayers, while meeting the needs of our students – current and future. These referendum dollars will be used as follows:

LEARNING & ATHLETIC SPACES

To address changes in teaching needs and provide the flexible learning spaces that create opportunities for personalized learning, the proposed plan includes improvements to revitalize many of the District’s current learning environments by:

    • Building a new gymnasium

    • Modernizing outdated classrooms

These new and reconfigured spaces will provide more flexible, learner-centered environments that support different learning styles and result in better student attention, motivation and achievement.
