Luxemburg-Casco School District to Enhance Student Safety

First improvement project coming out of April 2018 referendum breaks ground

LUXEMBURG, Wis. – The Luxemburg-Casco School District formally broke ground Friday, Oct. 19, on the first of its improvement projects coming out of a community referendum passed this past April.

The initial project is focused around student safety, and involves an improvement in security through a relocated main entrance of the Primary School. The new entry point to the school building will include shatter resistant film on its windows and glass. Scheduled for completion by the start of the 2019-20 school year, the project also will provide additional classroom space at the rear of the building for the district’s growing 4K program.

“This is an exciting moment for our community,” said Luxemburg-Casco School District Superintendent Glenn Schlender. “Student safety is of paramount concern to parents in the district and to our staff. This project, and the security improvements it provides, will ensure a high level of safety. We are appreciative that voters saw

the importance of implementing these changes.”

Along with Schlender, School Board President Mike Driedric and Jeff Mangan of Nexus Solutions spoke as part of a short program, followed by the groundbreaking ceremony. Also on hand were: PTA President Tracy Bahn; Primary School Principal Pete Kline; the district’s two school resource officers, Nia DuBois and Dana Schopf; a representative of Bayland Buildings; and other school board members.

A long-range facilities plan initially was undertaken by the L-C School District in the spring of 2015. Following engagement with the local community, two referendum questions were put before voters in April 2018, both of which passed.

Together, the $27.9-million referendum will provide future building additions and improvements at the Primary, Intermediate and High schools. These will include a three full-court gymnasium, space adjacent to the new gym where larger events can be held, a public workout area with on-site changing facilities, and new space for

the wrestling program. A new Middle School at the south end of the High School also will be constructed.
