Balza named as a 2020 ‘Teacher of Distinction’ by Green Bay Chamber

Fourth-grade ELA teacher at Intermediate School to be honored April 15 at Golden Apple Awards
LUXEMBURG, Wis. – Mrs. Leila Balza, a fourth-grade ELA teacher at Luxemburg-Casco Intermediate School, has been named as a 2020 ‘Teacher of Distinction’ by the Greater Green Bay Chamber of Commerce. She will be honored at the 27th annual Golden Apple Awards ceremony on April 15.“She consistently demonstrates her love for teaching and for her students,” says L-C Intermediate School Principal Jolene Hussong. “She also does an exceptional job of using data, assessments and goal setting to assist her students in recognizing their own potential and growth. We thank her for being an example of the greatness that is taking place daily within all of the students and staff at the Intermediate School.”Balza, in her 11th year as a teacher, is in the midst of her second year in the Luxemburg-Casco School District, teaching English language arts to the fourth grade. She previously taught third grade at St. Bernard Catholic School in Green Bay and at St. Mary School in Luxemburg.“I am honored to be named as a 2020 Teacher of Distinction,” says Balza. “I am grateful for the support of my family and administration, who not only allow me to try new things in my classroom, but encourage it. Most of all, I am grateful for my students. Their passion for growing and learning makes me a better educator every day.”
Balza received a bachelor’s degree in Education in 2008 from Silver Lake College in Manitowoc, Wis.
