Shovelsnouts are a large species of boar that reside within VerdureClan territory. They can also be spotted within CavernClan, likely to drive away weaker boars during territory disputes. The boars have a shaggy coat of moss and berries, often found with shields of bark on their backs. As they are boars, they have cloven hooves, a round body, stout heads, big nostrils, and tusks growing from their mouths and jaw bones.
While relatively peaceful, male boars grow aggressive during the mating season, fighting with one another and other creatures that provoke them. It is best to avoid Shovelsnouts entirely during these months. Mother Shovelsnouts are also fiercely protective of their young, and attack, stomp, and trample threats to them.
When struggling to find food, these creatures can be seen allowing their piglets to eat the berries on their hides. However, due to the lush nature and their lack of pickiness, this is rare. As a result, these boars do not mind it when other creatures feed upon the berries they grow. Deer and Shovelsnouts can be observed interacting and keeping one another company. Shovelsnouts earned their name from their behavior of upturning roots, logs, and rocks with their noses to eat grubs beneath.

Shovelsnout appearances depend on the location they grew up in, and where they reside, and are shown in the moss they grow to the color of their pelt. Female Shovelsnouts come in gray and brown, and have stripes that are often covered by their decorations. Male Shovelsnouts come in a mixture of oranges as a way to show off to females. This coloration puts younger boars at risk due to their inability to blend in. The bark that rests upon their backs is stripped from a tree within their claimed territory. This is a behavior both sexes display, as both a territorial claim and a protective shield. The berries that grow upon Shovelsnout's moss reflects their childhood diet. Only one of four berries can grow on them; blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries.
