This page goes over general rules that apply to all Clan cats. This page does not detail Rolling & Statistics, which required for a character submission. That information can be found on its page! This page does not cover clan-specific Character Creation rules. To view Clan-specific, Cosmetic, & Stat character creation rules, see below:
Ready to submit your character? Here are some handy quick links to our graphics templates and submission templates! We allow submission in both text-based messages in our server, and using Google Docs!
Character Creation- Players are able to submit as many characters as they can play. Characters submitted into our bio channel must be approved by two members of staff before they are able to be played freely. All character submissions must abide by the Character Creation rules.
NPCs, Deaths & Cooldowns - Players are able to NPC their characters- or put them in a state where they still exist in-universe, but are no longer played or on ones roster. More than one cat can be NPC’d at once. NPC'd cats should not be used by players as a means to achieve information or develop characters in roleplay, as an extension of our Self-RP rule. NPCs may occasionally be played at staff discretion when a death, severe injury, or Moonpool meetings are required for a plot and there are no player volunteers. Addition of a new character numbers come with a one week cooldown. After a week has passed, members are free to add another character. All deaths must be pre-approved by a moderator.
Mental Illness & Disability - When creating a character, refrain from depicting severe mental illness without the proper research going behind it. Harmful stereotyping and mischaracterization of mental illness is actively detrimental to the server and its members. Depictions of self-harm and suicide are not permitted anywhere in the server. Chronic illness and disability must be discussed and cleared by staff prior to a character's introduction.
Retconning - There is no needed permission to change a character's appearance. However, heavily altered and changed backstories or personalities need to be re-checked over by a member of the staff team. Especially if this change now affects other members of the clan or roleplay, as this can effect their standing or rank if they held a position of power prior to a drastic change. Please communicate with staff and other players that may be affected by a backstory change.
Character Adoption - If a player adopts a character from another player in our adoption board channel, all rights to that character and their design are transferred to them, unless otherwise discussed. That character becomes the adopter's to redesign, play, and develop as they see fit. The previous creator holds no decision making powers over the character, even if the adopter leaves the server.
Mixing and Mashing species is permitted. This is allowed and encouraged for people who are looking to use multiple colors, details, and features in their cats! So long as it is distinguishable and we are provided the species names, it's entirely allowed! This does not extend to VerdureClanner's plants or CavernClan's gemstones, but does to the ungulates and insects they are based around.
Prehistoric Species may be used for characters! This excludes dinosaurs for CoveyClan. Extinct species may also be used.
Cosmetic Quirks are also permitted. We do not allow for extra limbs beyond CavernClan's six-leg limit! However, things like fish or bugs that glow, creatures that produce slime, special barbels, etc. are permitted to be reflected on your characters! These, however, are purely cosmetic and do not provide any form of advantage or disadvantage to your character. For instance, a cat based on a creature that produces a liquid venom might be able to produce the liquid, but it will not be venomous! These quirks are for looks only. For more information, see the Cosmetic Quirks page.
Accessories are found all throughout the Clans, big and small. However, these accessories are normally small-scale. Cats are unable to sew themselves shirts or hats, but necklaces, bracelets, earrings, etc. are permissible. For more details on Accessories, view our Accessories & Clothing page!
Character Naming is one of the most important part of creating your character. Cats may share a prefix with another cat, with a maximum of two cats sharing a prefix. These cats, however, may not be in the same Clan. Furthermore, names starting with Star, Silver, Split, Justice, Virtue, Divine, Covey, Tide, Verdure, or Cavern aren't permitted for lore purposes. We also ask that members do not use scientific and technical names. Your cat should not be named Pinnipediapaw, or Millisecondpaw. We also ask that members use the naming format provided by the books- not WhiskerFur, Whisker'Fur, or Whisker Fur. Cats can be named after creatures and plants in the Bestiary.
Character Heights have limitations. These are detailed below:
6-8.9 in (15.2 - 22.6 cm) = Dwarfism
9-15 in (22.8 - 38 cm) = Normal Height Range
16-20 in (40.6 - 50.8 cm) = Gigantism
Players who wish to play a cat with gigantism or dwarfism must purchase an item from the Stardust Shoppe. Please keep in mind that excessively small and large cats come with a plethora of health issues, and do not have the same QOL as a cat at a healthy height range.
Digital Art & Templates - We ask that, when art for a bio is done digitally, it be placed on one of our four templates for submission. These templates can be found in our character-bios channel, and can also be sent by our trusty bot Mimu when using the .template(tide/cavern/verdure/covey) command in our bots channel. All art must be properly credited if the submitter is not the creator. All bases and picrews must be credited. Traced art is not permitted, and results in a ban.
Bio Emotes - While not required, we ask that members make use of our :NEWSUB: and :UPDATE: emotes when submitting characters to signal to the staff team which submissions must be looked over, and which ones don't. We also use a handful of other emotes, titled :CHECK1DONE:, :CHECK2DONE:, :TRYAGAIN:, :ADDEDTOROSTER:, and :DISCUSSING:. These emotes are added to bios by staff to communicate with both players and eachother in regards to that submission's current status.

Kits are born with some of their features depending on their clan!
CavernClan cats are born with any additional limbs, honeypot tail, electra, and mandibles.
CoveyClan cats are born with their talons, tails, and wings, but not with any feathers.
VerdureClan cats are born with their hooves.
TideClan cats are born with their fins, but not with any scales.
Secondary features (gemstones, antennae, feathers, antlers/flora, scales) begin to grow when a cat reaches 4 moons. At 9 moons, these features are fully grown.
