Cosmetic quirks are traits present on a cat that do not line up with their clan's most common features, and are instead pulled from the species that a cat takes after. These traits are purely cosmetic, and do not aid nor harm a cat's functionality or capability.
Permittable Cosmetic Quirks are as follows:
Applying a glowing effect to a character's markings or other areas of the body, as long as no additional appendages are applied.
Reflective, transparent, or an otherwise unique appearance to the fur in direct correlation with the species the cat takes after.
Production of non-lethal and non-beneficial substances in direct correlation with the species the cat takes after, such as false venom or slime.
Cosmetic features that can be combined with an already present, required trait; e.g., barbels that appear as tendrils but are not functionally tendrils, extra long feathers in a CoveyClanner's tail or wings, etc.
Differences in the color of a cat's skin, in direct correlation with the species the cat takes after
Difference in the appearance of a cat's eyes, teeth, or body in direct correlation with the species the cat takes after. Keep in mind that general feline anatomy is still followed, and the cosmetic differences only affect size and proportions, not anatomy.
CoveyClanners having crests or plumes on their heads and tails in direct correlation with the species the cat takes after.
Cats changing colors in different seasons, or with age, in direct correlation with the species the cat takes after.
TideClanners having additional dorsal and ventral fins along their tails.
Mandibles, extra legs, and extra eyes on CavernClanners.
Commonly unpermitted Cosmetic Quirks are as follows:
The addition of a limb, the appearance of an additional limb, or a limb being replaced by something else. Tentacles on a TideClanner, a stinger on a CavernClanner, or beak on a CoveyClanner are all instances of non-permissible cosmetic feature.
Cosmetic quirks that would be beneficial towards a cat and provide an advantage over others, such as production of an acid or better underwater vision.
As of the March 2025 overhaul, non-venomous/aesthetic stingers are now permittable.
While this list tries to be as exhaustive as possible, we cannot cover everything. When adding a cosmetic quirk, ask yourself the following:
Does this provide a potential advantage?
Does this feature appear as another limb?
Does this feature take after a base species?
