Field Days are something every Apprentice participates in when they've reached the ripe age of nine moons old. It's an event run by the Specialty Rank Captain, who might be a Miner, Diver, Gardener, or Aviator — depending on the Clan. No other ranks can run these events, but mentors and others may spectate to cheer the young Apprentices on. A field day is intended to not only educate the Apprentices on the specialty ranks, but to see if one stands out in the crowd! If an Apprentice does especially well during their field day, they may be chosen to become a Specialty Role Apprentice! Captains decide who will join their team, if anyone, as well as their mentor.

The entire process is largely up to the Specialty Role Captains, but generally, field days involve 2-3 activities that will test an Apprentice's skill level in their Clan's respective kinesis. Captains may have the Apprentices do their activities together or separated, while some may split them into groups for different activities. Each Captain is different! However, before these tests begin, the Captain should give a rundown of what responsibilities and hardships joining the Specialty Role team can entail so that should the Apprentice be chose, they at least have some sort of idea of what their new life will be.
The results of the tests depend entirely on dice rolls- where each player makes a d20 roll to determine their success at each activity. Stat buffs do apply here, but the nature of rolling makes it so anycat could be chosen for the position!
If you are a specialty role Captain and you’re having trouble picking some activities, we've done the liberty of making some up for you! You’re welcome to pick and choose what you want, but you don’t have to pick any if you have a better idea! But each field day shouldn’t have more than 3 so as to not overwhelm the players involved.
Group race, where you are disqualified if you touch the ground!
Obstacle Course, where you are disqualified if you touch the ground! There's a lot of big rock formations and trees in the area! Have Apprentices show off their skill of bounding off of things!
Having Apprentices spin around a certain number of times/have somebody else spin them around, and then try to fly in a straight line!
A challenge involving wind currents where Captains either create a wind tunnel by flapping their wings or they find one (usually they’re between large formations of rocks) and have the Apprentices fly through!
Wind gets stronger and colder the higher up you fly, so try to fly up as high as you can while maintaining control!
A test of knowledge of different plants -- the Field Day takes place in the Thyme Grove, which is essentially a farm field. Testing Apprentice knowledge on what plant is what is a good start.
A race, but not in the traditional sense. See who can grow as many plants to maturity the fastest!
A sparring match, where you cannot use your bodies. You can only use plants to defend and attack!
A test of strength, lifting rocks of varying weights, kind of like a deadlift competition! Or alternatively, instead of rocks, you could take the Apprentice to the surface and see if they can fell a tree, or have them do more than one tree! Since logs are used in creating support beams, it’s important to be able to do this.
A maze to test memory. Have Captains place an object in the center of a maze/set of winding tunnels, have the Apprentice go retrieve the object and come back without getting lost, and to see who can do it the fastest.
A sparring match, but you cannot use your bodies. You can only summon earth and soil to defend yourself and attack.
A race in the water!
Breath holding test, to see who can hold their breath underwater the longest.
A depth test. This one is a bit more dangerous, but placing an object along the sea floor, either tangled up in something or through a tunnel of some sort, and asking the Apprentice to retrieve it. This tests their ability to not only hold their breath, but to literally act under high water pressure and to test their problem solving skills.
A sparring match in shallow water where they cannot use their bodies, they can only use water to defend themselves and attack!
