CavernClan cats are typically large, stocky cats with short muzzles, ears, tails, and large paws and noses. They have thick, dense fur that comes in a variety of colors. CavernClanners may have a variety of features, such as mandibles, extra legs, eyes, horns, honeypot tails, stingers, elytra and wing-like ears in correlation arthropods. CavernClanners have antennae: two on their heads, and a range from six to ten on their backs. These antennae do not grow back when plucked, but return if damaged in adolescence. These antennae act as extra whiskers, detecting changes in the wind and vibrations. They can also pick up on scents and tastes! Gemstones sprout from their bodies and replace their claws into unsheathable talons for fighting and digging. These gemstones are around a 7-8 on the mohs scale of hardness. All CavernClanners have some degree of bioluminescence from their crystals and antennae (and mouths and teeth, if they take after these crystals), which flares and dims with emotions or at will. Their glow gradually fades when they die. The shape of their gemstones is in its raw form unless worn down. A guide to raw crystal shapes can be found here.
CavernClanners can be based off of most animals under the phylum arthropods, excluding most crustaceans. This includes,
Arachnids (spiders, scorpions, etc., horseshoe crabs excluded)
Insects (diving beetles, mantids, termites, moths, etc.)
Myriapoda (millipedes, etc.)
Terrestrial isopods
While CavernClanners may seem burly and slow, they are actually quite quick in their digging capabilities! These cats are able to tunnel down into the rocky earth at a rate of 20 feet per hour! When in shallow, easy to dig soil or clay, they can dig even faster. CavernClanners are also incredibly flexible, and much like the bugs they are based on, can flatten to nearly half of a normal cats size to squeeze down into tight gaps and narrow passageways without risk to their bones. CavernClanners have little issue with low oxygen and polluted caves, and are capable of surviving days in conditions that'd asphyxiate others. They can withstand depths of up to 9,842 feet in their caverns!
CavernClanners all possess geokinesis- the ability to move, control, and manipulate any and all types of earth! Mud, clay, crystals, dirt, and stone- you name it, these cats can control it! These abilities are most commonly used to fortify or collapse tunnels, or in battles with large opponents. Some CavernClanners have honed their abilities enough to create art with their geokinetic abilities, but most don't bother.
CavernClan leaders have much more gemstones than their Guardians. The crystals form large, segmented patches of impenetrable armor around the leader's body, primarily around their backs. They are also just physically stronger than the Guardians, and have stronger geokinetic abilities. CavernClan leaders also produce a toxin in their spit- it's not only sticky and hard to wash out, but it stings their opponent and has mild paralyzing effects, making those they bite sluggish and slow! Leader marks are either on the cheek or within a crest of gemstones upon their forehead! They also might have larger mandibles or horns!

CavernClan cats are generally large, stocky cats with large paws and short tails, although other CavernClanners may be shorter, larger, or have a different body build. They may be based on tropical or subtropical arthropods- excluding aquatic arthropods such as crabs and lobsters. These cats have small gemstone freckling on their bodies, which can cover up to 25% of their coat in small clusters. In guardians, these crystals never form large patches over the neck, back, or chest. CavernClanners also have multiple antennae- 2 on the forehead, and a random number between 6 and 10 on their back. These antennae can be single file or double file. CavernClanners have non-retractable, crystalline claws. Their teeth, eyes, antennae, nose, tongue, and paw pads may share the coloring and patterning of their crystals, but do not have to. These can also glow.
CavernClanners may also have an array of unique features. Their ears may take on the appearance of a bug's wings. These ears do not provide any capability of flight, nor do they grow excessively large. CavernClanners may grow an additional pair of legs, for a total of 6 altogether, as well as up to 8 eyes. Only four eyes may grow on each side. These eyes may grow asymmetrical, such as 2 on one side and 3 on the other. Heterochromia is symmetrical- two eyes on the left side of the face cannot be different colors. They may also have a beetle-like horn- only if they are based on a beetle or bug with said horn. These horns never grow taller than 1.5x the height of their ears. CavernClanners may also have small mandibles near their mouths to aid in gripping.
CavernClan leaders have much more, and much larger, crystal formations than their guardians, covering up to 75% of their body. All CavernClan leaders have crystal armor that can form over their backs, necks, and chest. This armor forms segments similar to insects for articulation and allowing leaders free range of movement. CavernClan leaders also produce a toxin in their saliva that acts as a slight paralytic, as well as having uniquely textured paw pads, allowing them to climb along walls and ceilings. CavernClan leaders may have gemstone crests, and they have larger mandibles, if any.
The following traits appear on all CavernClanners, but can be missing due to accident or injury. Keep in mind antennae may regrow*;
Gemstone freckling
2 head antennae and up to 10 back antennae*
Unretractable gemstone claws
The following traits are optional for CavernClanners;
Beetle horn on the head
Mandibles
Arthropod wing ears
Six legs
Up to eight eyes
Elytra (cannot be used for flight)
Honeypot tail
Non-venomous stinger
Long bug tongue
* Antennae only regrow if a cat has not yet reached maturity, and only if partially severed. Fully plucked antennae never return. Back antennae can be single or double file.
