Fast Food Fun
8th Grade - Health and PE
SOL/Standard - Health 8.3 The student will undertake health-promotion activities that demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between nutrition, physical activity, and emotional and physical health.
Learning Experience
Students searched the internet to determine the calories and fat in a typical fast food meal. Students then used these findings to create different informational spreadsheets and charts and reflect on their fast food selections.
They were able to see where calories came from, and how they could be used as fuel for the body.
What did the student(s) learn about this experience:
"Something surprising that I learned through my learning experience was that sometimes when it comes to fast-food restaurants, your dessert can be better for your health than any of the dishes in your main meal!" - Sarina
What did the teacher enjoy about this experience:
"Students were able to reflect and come up with healthier choices at their favorite fast food restaurants. It was fun to see the students excited to apply what they had learned in our nutrition unit to their real life food choices." - Ginger Pope
