Learning Experience
Our students were charged with the challenge to design a video game based on a Hero’s Journey. They each worked to write a storyline about a Hero and a quest to defeat a villain while they searched for something, be it an item or information. The students built out their storyline, determining the characters, a description of their setting and quest, as well as, written messages the Hero would receive. After writing their storyline, they were able to design from a scratch a video game that brought their story to life. They were tasked to create original artwork to build a world of characters using 2D designs using a 13x13 grid.
The project is completely student-owned since they created their own story idea and designed the video games from scratch.
What did the student(s) learn about this experience:
"In my opinion, the game was certainly, absolutely astonishing. I've always wanted to try coding to try to make a game of my own, and for us to have a project on that made me really excited about it. I don't think making a game could get much easier than that. It was really simple, but detailed if you want it to be. What I like most about it is that you can choose to use pre-made art pieces, or make your own. I was really proud of the end result of my game. Ultimately, my experience of Bloxels was great! An easy 10/10!" - Joshua
“I loved it, and the variety of games people did was GREAT. I really enjoyed it along with the fun time of discovering and playing around! IT WAS GREAT!!!!” - Sreeram
