Learning Experience

Teachers wanted students to be in the habit of working collaboratively. This project was designed to provide students a chance to practice collaborating while learning more about animals. Students researched various animals in order to know what their special needs are, and how their habitats provide these needs. In order to develop collaboration skills, students were placed in habitat groups to create a diorama for their chosen animals. Students then shared their knowledge on video. Students used their knowledge to create their own imaginary animal that could be discovered in a Virginia habitat. They then explained why the animal would do well in the given habitat.

What did the student(s) learn about this experience:

"We had fun making things together" - Lizzie

What did the teacher enjoy about this experience:

"This project allowed students to practice research skills and collaborate with peers to create a final project. Students have been working on this project across the curriculum this year. The project required students to use their background knowledge and creativity when developing their new species of animals. It has been exciting to watch students grow and develop along with their project this year!

" - Ms. A. Locher
