Learning Experience

Inspired by a generous community donation and the captivating tale of Taffy of Torpedo Junction, students embarked on a journey to explore the historical significance of lighthouses worldwide. Transported to the World War II era and the Outer Banks through the novel, they uncovered dialect, figurative language, and historical depth with Taffy as their guide. For their culminating project, students researched and presented on lighthouses across the globe, connecting with a local expert who provided valuable insight and support throughout the process. All 5th grade students participated in a Student Exhibition where they shared their projects to the parent community and received a "Keeper of the Light" certificate from the Lighthouse Expert, Mr. Anderson. This collaborative endeavor ignited their creativity and deepened their understanding of these iconic structures, symbolizing resilience and guidance throughout history.
