Learning Experience
On Wednesdays during afternoon clubs, a group of students come together with Mr. Morgan and Mr. Johnson to serve their community and teach each other something of common interest. Our most successful and creative project has included the students teaching the adults to construct paper airplanes and determining the distance they can fly based on the model they create. Afterward, we spent time cleaning up the playground to help out our school. The goal is that at the end of each session, the students have learned as well as the adults. This really speaks to the students being able to express themselves and their interests, while also helping out their community. It also promotes a learner-centered environment combined with community engagement, and for us at Highland Springs this year, a very hands-on scientific experience!
What did the student(s) learn about this experience:
"I had fun making and folding the paper airplane. My favorite was when we folded the big paper airplanes.
- Tisiah
What did the teacher enjoy about this experience:
"It was a great experience, that reminded me of cool things I did when I was younger " -Mr. Morgan
