Science Sleuths: The Great Escape Room Challenge

Henrico Learner Profile (HLP) 6C Focus

5th Grade - Science

SOL/Standard

4.5 The student will investigate and understand that the planets have characteristics and a specific place in the solar system.

Learning Experience

Students designed “escape room” puzzles themed around Science standards. We then traded their student-made escape room puzzles with Seven Pines Elementary and provided each other feedback. Students applied the science content they learned to create interactive review games for other students. The collaboration provided students the opportunity to review and master science content as they designed the puzzles.

What did the teacher enjoy about this experience:

"It was great to see the students think in a different way than they are used to. They knew the material, but they needed to use critical thinking skills to create questions and puzzles for other students. This project also provided many opportunities for students to practice teamwork and working together. The students really enjoyed the fact that they were sharing with another school. I loved seeing them excited and engaged in the entire process of this project!" - Mrs. Bowman
