Learning Experience
Designing and 3D printing an airplane is a learning experience that can foster students’ interest and engagement in STEM. It promotes students to learn critical content knowledge in areas such as aerodynamics, physics, materials science, and engineering design. It develops students’ critical thinking skills by challenging them to design, test, and improve their airplane models using an iterative process. It allows students to reflect on their growth as HCPS learners by encouraging them to document their design process, evaluate their outcomes, and provide and receive feedback. It can also be integrated with other subjects, such as history, geography, art, or language arts, to create interdisciplinary and authentic learning opportunities. 3D printing helps students learn durable skills such as creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking, and technological literacy that can prepare them for the challenges and opportunities of the future. This morning club can inspire students to pursue STEM careers and become lifelong learners.
What did the student learn about this experience:
"The aviation club was extremely fun!! We got to make planes and rockets out of Keeva planks and Legos. We also made book creators on our favorite aviators. It was very fun playing on Tinkercad. It was an awesome experience when we 3D printed our planes. I'm also VERY excited for Henrico 21! " - Arudh
What did the teacher enjoy about this experience:
"3D printing is not about making things; it’s about sparking creative thinking." - Becky Lucas
