Game On!
A Collaborative Collection of Science Review Activities
Henrico Learner Profile (HLP) 6C Focus
Learning Experience
Students created questions to test the knowledge of their peers in other 4th and 5th grade classes, as well as 5th grade classes at other Henrico County schools. First, they had to choose a science topic from throughout their 4th and 5th grade year. Then with classmates that chose the same topic, they used their notes, interactive notebooks, and past learning experiences to create questions for reviewing that topic. The questions were used to create a game. The students were collaborating and communicating with each other to come up with the content, communicating with peers to share their final product, and being critical and creative thinkers when creating their game.
What did the student(s) learn about this experience:
"I know I grew as a creative thinker because in my past projects l did not try to 'go big or go home'. This time I tried to make this thing amazing." - Kennedy
What did the teacher enjoy about this experience:
"My students learned to be better collaborators and communicators in order to create games that had the correct information with multiple choice answers. They also showed their creative and critical thinking skills in order to design their games and come up with the types of questions and answers they wanted to include. For example, when one group wanted to add sounds and worked through how to do it, they then became the class “experts,” showing other students what to do. " - Valerie Hume
