Skyleaf's Playlist

Duhkha Skyleaf, known “The Sinkiller” to all elves and many humans, came to the continent of Abensina about a year prior to the cataclysm.  His shear physicality has allowed him to survive in nearly total isolation since the Cataclysm.  Skyleaf appears normally as a broad shouldered human standing just a bit taller than two meters.  Skyleaf’s abnormal muscle structure makes him an intimidating sight and most other humanoid creatures regard him as a bit of a freak.  In addition, years of fleeing the Kingpriest’s mercenaries, and living in isolation, have made his manners a bit ruff.  Stories are told of him crushing the head of his opponents with his bare hands, pulling their spines from their bodies and generally taking a bit too much pleasure from the kill for most high minded humanoids to be comfortable around him.  Further, his reputation for leaving very gory “messages” for those who would hurt him, or his loved ones, would make any average humanoid cringe just a little.  His reputation is far more pervasive in Kagonasti Lands than those of Ansalon.

Time Line of Events

100 P.C. – Duhkha “Silly Wind1” Skyleaf is born to his elvish Mother Flyingsnow and his Half Elf Half Irda Father, Skyleaf Brokenwind in Elderwild.

99 P.C. – That following winter, Symeon III becomes Kingpriest and continues the Three Thrones War.

98 P.C. - The news arrives that Theorllyn III is mobilizing against Symeon III and about to attack Istar.  Believeing that the Kingpriest Symeon will continue to wage war unless something is done, Skyleaf Brokenwind joins forces with an officer of Theorllyn’s army named Leon De Grantis.  Leon and Brokenwind actually come very close to killing Symeon III during a secret mission, but an elite guard named Utham Marsevrin4 bettered Brokenwind’s inhuman strength, killing him, and forcing Leon De Grantis to flee into hiding.

97 P.C. - Leon De Grantis brings news to Flyingsnow of her husband’s death as a hero and advises her to flee since the Kingpriest is well aware that Brokenwind had an offspring.  Since Brokenwind was the only person to even come close to assassinating the Kingpriest, his son is regarded as a threat.

48 P.C. – After years of running, the Kingpriest Symeon III is dead and the new Kingpriest is not as aggressive toward his predecessor’s enemies.  Skyleaf and Flyingsnow are able to make a home in the woodlands outside of the city of Port O’ Call.  Flyingsnow teaches Skyleaf to sing and play the guitar, a wood and string instrument of her own making.

40 P.C. – A new Kingpriest comes to power, but Skyleaf and Flyingsnow feel safe in their new home.  During this time in his life, Duhkha Skyleaf chooses to name himself for the most familiar thing he knows: suffering. Flyingsnow has gained the love of Vadr Mattar2, the bastard son of Lexington Uth Matar3, and leader of the Black Lotus Theives Guild.  Over the next few years, he teaches Skyleaf and Flyingsnow everything he knows about the art of thievery.  Skyleaf is never told anything of this kind man’s history and does not know anything about his blood line.  Vadr gives skyleaf a special suit of fiber based armor which grants no ill effects to thieves.

3 P.C. – “The Order of the Devine Hammer” sends troops to find the old threat posed by Skyleaf.  Skyleaf watches them murder his mother and Vadr.  Then, in a blind rage, Skyleaf literally rips the six soldiers into pieces.  From one dying soldier, Skyleaf extracts a name; Cathan Twice-Born4.  The man reveals that Cathan issued orders for them to attack Skyleaf and his family.

Skyleaf begins hunting anyone who wears the mark of the King Priest.  He kills an entire company of men, one at a time, as they pass through the ancient forests outside Port o’ Call.  The few survivors report that their companions were torn to shreds, many were left eviscerated.  Others were left sitting on the sharpened stump of a tree only to be impaled further by it as an effect of their own struggle to get free.  Many men still trembled after finding comrades with their own genitals forced down their throats.  The scenes were so vicious; the survivors believed that the horrors were inventions of the Dark Queen Takhisis herself.  The only survivors had done nothing less than fled for miles as their less fortunate compatriots were picked off one by one.  They fell into traps and dropped from bow shots out of the dark woods.  The company’s leader, a brutal man named Sin5, was actually beaten nearly to death with his own arms.  Honey was poured all over him and he was left to die near a hill of carnivorous fire ants. His wounds had been cauterized to make his death particularly long and painful. The story of this particularly amazing and brutal killing earned Skyleaf the nickname “The Sinkiller”.  After his vengeance, Skyleaf renounces all of the gods as savages, unworthy of worship because they had made his entire life one of suffering.  Even his proper name, Duhkha, came from the ancient language and means Enlightened Suffering.

>1 P.C. – The Kingpriest sends two companies to capture, “The Sinkiller.”  Many of these men are also slaughtered by Skyleaf.  Finally, the Kingpriest’s troops flee when the cataclysm destroys the world as they knew it.  Skyleaf finds himself forced to leave his home because the people of Port O’ Call begin to fear him and the knights that pursued him.

CATACLYSM

0+ AC – Skyleaf becomes a hermit in the woodlands surrounding a small hamlet known as Haven.  He discovers a cousin of his has taken up in the woods as well.  Fortunately, their parents were good friends in spite of the racial tensions caused by his father’s Irda Heritage.

7 AC – Skyleaf meets Caprica Whitestone and is impressed to find there is still honor in the warriors of Man and the Gods of Good.  He decides that it may be possible for him to find his surviving Irda Kin and possibly even avenge the murder of his mother.

Historical Footnotes Notes:

1.     Skyleaf’s name as a child was Silly Wind.  A name his parents called him until he was old enough to choose his adult name.

2.     Vadr Mattar (?) – Lex’s illegitimate son and leader of the Black Lotus, A thieves guild

3.     Lexington Uth Matar (d) – Father of Vadr Mattar and possibly the grandfather of Kenneth Uth Matar

(Vadr would be Kenneth’s father’s unacknowledged half brother)

4.     Utham Marsevrin – The Marsevrin’s have a long and noble history in Krynn. At fifteen, Utham became a High Guard of The Kingpriest Symeon III.  At Fifty-five, he and Luska had their second child, Cathan (aka Cathan Twice-Born).  Their elder son, Tancred, was born three years earlier.  Their last child, Wentha Marsevrin was born only months before they both died of Longosia.  Later, Cathan became second in command of the Knights of the Divine Hammer.  Cathan is believed dead as a result of the Cataclysm.  Tancred is rumored to have died of Longosia in 41 PC.  The whereabouts of Wentha are unknown.

5.     Sin (d) – A former officer of The Knights of the Devine Hammer.  Legendary for his skill in combat, his slaying demoralized his men and earned skyleaf his nickname.

CHARACTER NOTES

-        Seeking to learn more about his father’s heritage

·       Skyleaf has not been able to pursue his goal primarily because he fears revealing his racial heritage will get him persecuted once again.

·       Discovered the Irda Crown after Caprica revealed she knew his race and that the crown the Kender wore was from an Irda Tomb

·       Believes the “Half Elf” body in the tomb, as described by Obito, was probably Half Elf, Half Irda.  He is wondering if it may be his father. Regardless he does not feel the tomb’s discovery is coincidence.  He believes the All Mother has guided him to the place and gave him the strength to defeat the dragon there.

·       Discovered there was an Irda specialist in Haven named Finn Waverider

·       Waverider said he did not believe a Half Irda ever existed.

·       After talking with Finn, Skyleaf suspects there was something else in the tomb and remembers something he saw while retrieving his wand from Obito.  So, he retrieved the triangular relic

-        Skyleaf values the bonds of Family.  Something he has not shared for a long time, but is becoming immediately relevant as of 8 AC

·       First began to be in love with Talia when he first returned from Eborium.  He realized there how much he feared losing her.  Something he had not felt since the death of his mother.

·       Now feels that Caprica is as close as Family.  He still is weary of Sir Kenneth as old habits die hard.

·       These bonds are the only thing Skyleaf sees as Holy.  Skyleaf holds in great disdain any people who betray these types of bonds.

·       Skyleaf realized that Kite, as Telek, had been in a close relationship with Yasmin.  Combined with Kites other action, Skyleaf now views Kite as the lowest of forms of existence.  Privately, he has vowed that Kite’s head will be mounted on his wall.

·       With respect to Yasmin, Skyleaf has been unable to wrestle her fate from his mind.  While his friendship with her was not so close as to call her family, he can’t seem to shake her from his mind.

-        Irrational fear of racial intolerance

·       Does not reveal his racial make-up either physically or verbally

·       Easily angered by persons abusing others for reason of racial differences.

·       Identifies with Dwarves, Gnomes, and even Kender because of racial prejudice against them

a.      Case in point, not many would allow a Kender to live in their home.  Skyleaf allows two refuge in his abode.

-        Seeking some particular item of immense value – accomplished Goal

·       A bit of a loot hound, especially of late

·       This has become more of a serious concern for Skyleaf recently.  (a secret)

·       Skyleaf found exactly what he hoped for in a small Pink Diamond from the Shadow Dragon’s Lair.  He used it to create an engagement ring for Talia.

-        Has little or no respect for figures of authority or organizations: views his own duties to such things as a necessary evil

·       His manner in front of the Haven Elders is less than respectful

·       Did not kneel to Wilhelm Curston

-        Hatred of the Knights of the Divine Hammer. (may make irrational choices)

·       Attacked and nearly killed the KoDH (Rodrick’s Bro)

·       Desires revenge for the Deaths of his Mother and her lover, Vadr.

·       Re-experiencing the murder of his Mother and Vadr during Kite’s spell stirred this feeling.

-        Hatred of Kite.  (still pragmatic but will be opportunistic)

·       Angered by Kite attacking them

·       Enraged by Kite’s murder of Yasmin, whom Skyleaf views as a kind friend

·       Enraged by Kite’s relationship with Yasmin prior to her murder (disrespect of Family bonds)

·       When Kite’s Spell made him relive the most traumatic events of his life, he began to associate those feelings of vengeance with Kite

·       The idea that Kite may be responsible for his return to Eborium and possible permanent separation from Talia has totally sealed Kite’s fate in Skyleaf’s eyes.  The wrong is only correctable with blood.

-        Primary mantra: Action over words

·       One word… Whistle

·       Running off to fight rather than wait for party members to finish plans or organizing

·       A tendency to pay little or no attention at ceremonies like Caprica’s Knighting or the Elves celebration of the victory over Howler.

·       Sheathing his sword and walking forward to meet Nuitari rather than taking a guarded stance or prostrating

-        Is in love with Talia Redgrass.  (May make irrational choices)

·       Rushing to restrain Kite

·       Asking her to share his home

·       Helping with Bar duties when possible

·       A generous tip for her to hire help with when the Bar was new.

·       Stole a rare diamond from the Shadow Dragon’s treasure to be sure he could give her a ring and stoned he had earned with his actions (feared he was about to be exposed as a “blue devil”) and would not be given the item if he asked by the party under the circumstances.  Probably a big failing of wisdom, but his past makes his fears hard to overcome.

·       Revealed his true face and past to her

·       Proposed marriage with a ring of Platinum and the small pink diamond he had recovered from the S.Dragon treasure

Skyleaf in “native” form with Talia.

-        Likes Dwarves (tries to impress them)

·       Tries to drink with them… even Dwarven Ale

·       Encourages the rest of the party to help Red with Howler

·       Seeks Red’s company and friendship over others in downtime

-        Likes wild animals

·       Demonstrated by his respect for the Centaurs

·       Skyleaf sometimes chooses to sleep in the woods despite more “comfortable” options

-        Believes Caprica is under the influence and protection of Kiri-Jolith.

·       Witnessed her laying of hands (healing)

·       Witnessed her ability to attempt to turn undead

·       Follows orders from her (nobody else will be able to get him to take an order that does not suit him)

·       Assists her in adventuring

·       Witnessed her block a death spell from a Death Knight in Eborium

·       Elected to attack Howler, rather than a Wyvern attacking her. (If Kiri-Jolith is her protector she will be ok)

·       Believes when the time comes, Caprica and Kiri-Jolith may be his best hope for learning of his past in spite his natural distrust of knightly orders

·       Believes she may also be an unwitting instrument of the All Mother

-        Does not believe the Gods are Divine, only very powerful beings

·       Does not believe Divine Beings would allow their “servant” The Kingpriest to murder his family.

·       Does not believe that a servant of divinity could perpetrate the crimes which caused Cataclysm

·       Does not believe Divinity would visit such suffering as Cataclysm on the world for any reason.

·       Respects Kiri-Jolith specifically because he has not abandoned Caprica or the world.  Further for his reputed battle prowess.

·       Actually heard Nuitari admit there are rules even the “Gods” must obey.

-        Respects prowess in combat, both with a sword and with the mind.

Given his distrust of knights, any respect Skyleaf holds for Kenneth is based on his battle prowess -      Kenneth’s fight with the Death Knight was impressive

-    Kenneth’s fight against vast numbers in the altercation with Howler.

-     Runs a hand to hand combat gladiatorial business

-      Hired Umberto largely because the man had the “danglies” to even step into a ring with Skyleaf

-      Part of his reason for liking dwarves is their tenacity in a fight for such a wee fellow.

-      Respects Red because he defeated Skyleaf in the ring.

-        Does not fully trust anyone but Talia.

·       Has not revealed (by choice) his actual face to anyone (after being asked directly by Caprica about his race early 8 AC)– even Talia. (After returning from the Howler/Shadow Dragon quest)

·       Has revealed his past to Caprica

·       Has revealed his Identity to Obito after realizing Obito must have something he hasn’t told anyone about

·       Accidentally revealed his Identity by placing the crown on his head to Beryl and Kenneth

·       Trusted Talia enough to sleep in her bed, where he risks giving away his true face.

·       His distrust of knights and similar organizations had made him remain a bit distrustful of Caprica.

a.      Her “blue devil” comment after Skyleaf had “lost form” under the influence of the combination of a concussion and poison did not help his sense that she would consider him evil if she knew the truth.  He believes she may betray him anyway when it is convenient.

b.     Now realizes his concerns about Caprica were unfounded.  This has drastically altered his belief that the world as a whole would never accept skyleaf as he is.  Combined with his Love of Talia, and her acceptance of him, he now believes there is something at work in the world that may be the High God his mother occasionally spoke of.

·       Is not fully sure if he can trust Obito.  However, he tends to like him if only because he annoys Sir Kenneth in amusing ways

-        Pragmatic to a fault

·       Usually will make his logical choice even if it is not what everyone else would like.  i.e. Whistle incident

·       Heading off to various combat and events without waiting for others… especially when he reasons time is of the essence

a.      Restraining Kite before he had time for action

b.     Challenging the KoDH to fight without any preporation.

·       Leaping onto a Hill Giant after seeing Kenneth pinned under foot

·       Not taking the third wyvern down with the dragon slayer arrow.  Does not believe Caprica was in as much trouble as she may have actually been in.

·       Admitted to being a bit afraid of fighting the Lich in North Keep.

-        Fearless for self

·       Challenged Umberto the Ugly to Hand to hand “sparing” ·       Challenged the KoDH to a fight to the death with little fore-knowledge of a potentially powerful opponent.

·       Ran into a sandstorm after Clearbrook

·       Knelt before a Death Knight rather than run in terror.  Kneeling was meant to “confuse” the Deathkight and give Skyleaf an opportunity to think.

·       Leaping onto the back of a Hill Giant to save Kenneth

·       Not jumping away before the Shadow Dragon began climbing to lethal heights

·       Did not prostrate or feign respect for Nuitari – even acted a little shocked as he had expected Sargonnas and was confused by the child form.  Skyleaf simply asked in a confused tone, “Sargonnas?”

 -        Believes that there is one true God, The All Mother

·       His mother used to speak of the All Mother as the only real God

·       The very fact that he has now personally met one of the Lower Gods, Nuitari, made him sure that something very powerful has taken a specific interest in him.  Not just Caprica.

·       He does not believe in the Universal Power of the other “gods” and the Fact that Nuitari admitted to having “rules” confirmed this belief.

·       Believes the cruelty of the Cataclysm and the impish nature of the beings who claim to be Gods has awoken the All Mother from her slumber

·       Beginning to believe that Kiri-Jolith is possibly serving the will of the All Mother

Skyleaf Fights the Shadow Dragon         ·       Something quiet and deep keeps whispering Yasmin’s name in his mind.  He is not sure if this is just grief with which he is very familiar.  However, it                                                                                 has gotten more and more prominent in his mind during the party’s time in Eborium.  He suspects the notion is more than just a passing tear.

·       Took the task of finding the Gems willingly because he will do anything to get back to Talia.  Further, he now believe the All Mother is involved and does not believe even Evil Gods can act outside Her will.  Nuitari’s statement about rules confirms this belief for Skyleaf at least.

·       While in the past effects of Kite’s spell, he remembered a saying his mother used to rattle off anytime someone did something hateful to us.  She said it was a saying my father taught her and helped her keep a settled heart.  “She calls us the mud that eats itself.”  The saying was something the All Mother supposedly said at the end of some great war.

-        Believes there is something very large going on beyond just the Kingpriest and the effects of Cataclysm.  He feels the Gods are all in play far more than anyone in the world would think.

·       Caprica herself

·       The Tomb of the Dwarf and the opening of Eborium

·       The fact that they have drawn the attention of the Mage Kite, a known associate of Fistandantilus, the infamous Mage to the Kingpriest

·       The discovery of the Irda tomb seems far to convenient to be pure coincidence

·       The realization that his seeking out of help to discover his past was completely against his nature prior to all this.  Why had he been so driven to leave the trees when he had found such peace there for so long?  (a question that has been nagging

·       Essentially we have witnessed action from Nuitari, Kiri-Jolith, Reorx, and to a limited extent Sargonnas assuming that is what we saw

·       We have heard of action from reliable sources from Sargonnas and Takhisis

·       We have seen artifacts of: Mishakal and Reorx
