Zeolites are tree – dimensional crystalline compounds wichare built from AlO4 and SiO4 tetrahedra.
Pemza and pumicide are a porous volcanic material. They are created with the process of expansion of the volcanic lava that uses the steam and the gaseous materials dissolved into the lava itself. The pores of the pemza and pumicide can have sizes from a wide range. Namely, the size of the pores can be as large as parts of micrometer (μm) and more rough pores with sizes up to 2-3 mm.
Pemza and pumicide typically have a similar chemical composition. They are an acidic volcanic material which contain 66-70% of SiO2.
From the experiment and the obtained results is demonstrated that the pemza in the function of SiO2 composition as a material for a synthesis of zeolite type 4A. The obtained products with their characteristics are compared with the commercial zeolites. Considering that it is raw material which contains a mixture of different components, especially organic substances, is possible application of pemza for a synthesis of zeolite type 4A. By improving the purity of pemza may increase the crystallization of zeolite type 4A. In the furure the obtained zeolite from pemza will be tested as an absorbent.
