SID changes his route to help a young hitchhiker. He ends up being suited for rape when he doesn´t give up on the girl´s blackmail. RICHARD takes charge of her defense but KAREN doesn´t rely on his capability...

La familia FAIRGATE se ve afectada por la acusación de violación contra SID. La hermana de este, ABBY, acaba de llegar de visita, acompañada de sus hijos OLIVIA y BRIAN. Cuando SID se entera del intento de soborno de RICHARD, decide prescindir de él. KAREN recuerda una pista vital que lleva a la exculpación de SID. ABBY decide instalarse en KNOTS LANDING.

The FAIRGATES react to the accusation of rape against SID. His younger sister ABBY has just arrived on a visit, along with her son BRIAN and daughter OLIVIA. When SID learns about RICHARD´s bribe attempt, he decides to fire him. KAREN remembers a vital clue which results in getting SID cleared. ABBY decides to move to KNOTS LANDING.

Decidido a dejar el alcohol, GARY se convierte en miembro activo de Alcohólicos Anónimos. Durante una reunión, él y VAL conocen a EARL TRENT, otro alcohólico, y a su mujer JUDY. GARY desea ayudar a EARL y le dedica tanto tiempo que VAL se siente abandonada. ABBY comienza a mostrar su naturaleza manipuladora cuando se aprovecha de ERIC e intenta seducir a KENNY. KAREN se enfrenta con ella por este motivo.

Determined to quit drinking, GARY becomes an active member of A.A. During one of its meetings, he and VAL get acquaintance of EARL TRENT, another alcoholic, and his wife JUDY. GARY wants to help EARL and devotes him so much time that VAL feels neglected. ABBY begins to show her manipulative nature as she takes advantage of ERIC and tries to seduce KENNY. KAREN confronts her about this.

4/17: "CHANCE OF A LIFETIME" ("UNA OPORTUNIDAD ÚNICA")

RICHARD se encuentra en un dilema: abandonar el bufete en el que ha pasado los últimos años, en casos de tercera clase, o bien pasar a trabajar con un prestigioso abogado de CHICAGO con el que colabora ocasionalmente. La idea de trasladarse no convence a LAURA, que está trabajando como agente inmobiliaria y, tras su primera venta, ve cómo su jefe, SCOOTER WARREN, le da un beso. GARY cierra un trato para suministrar autos a la empresa "Orchid Cab Co." contra la opinión de SID, y también contrata a una mecánica, LINDA STRYKER. VAL se apunta unas clases de creación literaria. Cuando RICHARD deja su empleo, descubre que el bufete de CHICAGO le ofrecía un salario muy inferior al que ya tenía y se ve obligado a rechazar el empleo. Luego le explica a LAURA que lo ha hecho porque ella no quería cambiar de ciudad, y entonces rompe a llorar.

GARY makes a car deal with "Orchid Cab Co." against SID's better judgment. GARY also hires a female mechanic, LINDA STRYKER. LAURA starts her real estate job. After her first sale, her boss, SCOOTER WARREN, kisses her. VAL starts college. RICHARD thinks a prestigious CHICAGO law firm will hire him, so he tells off his boss and quits his job. Then he finds out the Chicago firm's offer is for a salary several thousand less than he was already making. He cannot accept the job. He tells LAURA he declined the job since she didn't want to move, but then starts crying.

KRISTIN SHEPARD, la hermana de SUE ELLEN, es detenida al poco de llegar a CALIFORNIA. VAL y GARY acceden a ayudarla en ese momento crítico. Pero no tardará en causar problemas, sobre todo a GINGER y KENNY. Este le ofrece un trabajo en su estudio, lo cual preocupa a SYLVIE. KENNY decide finiquitar su relación con ella y concentrarse en volver con GINGER. Pero esta ahora sale con CARL RUSSELMAN, el padre divorciado de uno de sus alumnos. Cuando KENNY lo averigua, se acuesta con KRISTIN, pero GINGER vuelve pronto de su cita con CARL y los encuentra juntos. Al final, KRISTIN confesará a VAL que espera un hijo y decide marcharse después de que GARY adivine su doble juego. GINGER pide el divorcio a KENNY.

KRISTIN SHEPARD, SUE ELLEN´s sister, is arrested not long after arriving in CALIFORNIA. VAL and GARY agree to help her at that critical moment. But she will soon cause trouble. KENNY gives KRISTIN a job at his studio, which upsets SYLVIE. KENNY decides that it is time to end his relationship with SYLVIE and concentrate on getting back with GINGER. But alas, GINGER is now going out with CARL RUSSELMAN, the divorced father of one of her pupils. When KENNY finds this out, he sleeps with KRISTIN. GINGER comes back early for being with CARL and finds KENNY and KRISTIN together. In the end, she will confess VAL that she is carrying a baby. Then she decides to leave KNOTS LANDING after GARY sees through her "sweet" act. GINGER serves KENNY with a divorce.

DIANA FAIRGATE se siente presionada por sus compañeras para que entable relaciones íntimas con su novio, pero ella se siente confusa y se enfurece cuando su madre se muestra más interesada por la función de la escuela que por ella. Debido a esta frustración, DIANA decide no participar. Mientras, con LAURA ocupada en su empleo, RICHARD pasa su tiempo con ABBY y acaban juntos en el jacuzzi. KAREN y DIANA acaban reconciliándose e interpretan el número "Put on a Happy Face".

DIANA FAIRGATE is under pressure due to her school girlfriends, about getting closer to her date. She is confused and angry when her mother shows more interest in the school's music number rather than her. In frustration, DIANA pulls out of the ERA. Meanwhile, with LAURA preoccupied with work, RICHARD spends his time with ABBY and they end up in the hot tub. KAREN and DIANA make up and sing, "Put on a Happy Face".

La estrecha relación que se ha establecido entre GARY y el matrimonio TRENT, ha ido acercando cada día más al primero con la esposa de EARL, JUDY. A espaldas de VAL, GARY empieza a verse asiduamente con la desesperada mujer. Los vecinos organizan una barbacoa para celebrar el éxito de LAURA en la inmobiliaria. En la fiesta, RICHARD acosa a ABBY y LAURA les oye planeando una cita para después. Más tarde ella le comunica que ya no será su "chivo expiatorio" y que, si sigue comportándose así, le abandonará. GINGER averigua que está embarazada y pone fin a su relación con CARL.

The friendship between GARY and the TRENTS has got GARY closer and closer to EARL´s wife JUDY. Behind VAL´s back, GARY starts to meet the hopeless woman often. The neighbors throw a barbecue for LAURA to celebrate her new success as a realtor. At the party, RICHARD paws ABBY and LAURA overhears them planning to meet later. She later tells RICHARD she will no longer be his "whipping boy", and if his behavior continues, she is going to leave him. GINGER finds out she is pregnant and breaks up with CARL.

8/21: "SCAPEGOATS" ("CABEZAS DE TURCO")

MICHAEL, el hijo de KAREN y SID, se ha comportado últimamente de un modo muy agresivo. Preocupados por el pequeño, los FAIRGATE acuden a un especialista que les informa de que MICHAEL padece de hiperactividad, una enfermedad que debe tratarse. Al mismo tiempo, SID contrata a ABBY como contable para la KNOTS LANDING MOTORS. FRANK KOLBERT y ROY LANCE le proponen a GARY un negocio de venta de piezas usadas pero SID se niega porque lo considera ilegal. Ellos amenazan a GARY porque hicieron un trato verbal y le exigen 50.000 dólares. ABBY sugiere a GARY que le pida prestado el dinero a J.R., ya que volverá pronto a la ciudad.

MICHAEL has been behaving very aggressively lately. Upset about the child, the FAIRGATES go to a specialist who reports them that MICHAEL suffers hyperactivity, a sickness that should be treated...SID hires ABBY as the bookkeeper for KNOTS LANDING MOTORS. FRANK KOLBERT and ROY LANCE from "Orchid Cab Co" offer GARY a deal on cheap parts, but SID declines, thinking it sounds illegal. FRANK and ROY tell GARY they had a verbal agreement and threaten him, telling him he'd better have $50,000.00 for them by the end of the week. ABBY overhears and suggests GARY ask J.R. for the money, as she read in the paper that J.R. will be in town soon.

ABBY contacta con J.R. EWING a fin de que este ayude a GARY a resolver un grave problema económico que ha puesto en peligro su vida. La aparición de J.R. alarma en exceso a VAL:

"No culpo a quien te disparara - le dice ella. "Ojalá lo hubiera hecho yo misma..." Por su parte, ABBY utiliza sus encantos con J.R. cuando GARY se niega a pedirle el dinero. J.R. le dice que está al tanto de que ha puesto sus miras en GARY y que sólo le hará el préstamo si él mismo se lo pide, así que ABBY sigue intentando persuadir a GARY. VAL le ruega que no haga tratos con él. ROY y FRANK presionan a GARY y él acaba acudiendo a J.R., que le presta los 50.000 dólares. KENNY rompe con SYLVIE e intenta volver con GINGER, pero ella se resiste.

ABBY contacts J.R. EWING in order to get him help GARY to solve out a serious financial problem, which has even jeopardized his life. J.R.´s appearance over-worries VAL:

"I don't blame whoever it was that shot you - she tells him. I just wish I'd done it myself!" When GARY refuses to ask him for the money, ABBY goes to J.R. for it and sleeps with him. J.R. says he knows that ABBY has designs on GARY and that he'll only give him the money if he asks for it himself, so ABBY keeps trying to persuade GARY. VAL asks him not to get in any deals with J.R. ROY and FRANK continue to pressure GARY, so he finally goes to J.R., who gives him the $50,000.00. KENNY breaks up with SYLVIE and wants to get back with GINGER, but she says no.

La relación que sostienen GARY y JUDY termina por descubrirse, mediante la intervención de la intrigante ABBY. LINDA invita a SID a asistir una carrera de coches el fin de semana, pero él le dice que no, ignorando que LINDA está interesada en él como hombre. GARY vende las piezas ilegales al proveedor de SID para que este no descubra su operación. LAURA intenta reanimar su relación con RICHARD, pero él la rechaza. Al mismo tiempo, también ABBY empieza a evitarle. ABBY y JUDY discuten sobre quién "conseguirá" a GARY. Cuando finalmente VAL se entera de todo, obliga a su esposo a elegir entre ella y JUDY, que está a punto de divorciarse. GARY elige a VALENE...aunque ABBY le pregunta al final: "¿Ya estás preparado para mí?"

GARY and JUDY´s relationship is finally exposed. LINDA asks SID to go away to a race for the weekend. SID decides not to go but doesn't pick up on the fact that LINDA's interested in him romantically. GARY sells the illegal parts to Sid's supplier so that SID won't know about it. LAURA tries to initiate romance with RICHARD, but he rejects her. Meanwhile, Abby has started to reject him. ABBY and JUDY argue over who will 'get' GARY. When VAL eventually learns everything, she makes her husband choose between her and JUDY, who is getting a divorce. GARY chooses VAL... though ABBY asks him at the very end: "Are you ready for me now?"

11/24: "A STATE OF MIND" ("ESTADO DE ÁNIMO")

JEFF CUNNINGHAM, el ex marido de ABBY, vuelve a aparecer en la vida de esta con la excusa de vigilar el ambiente en que se mueven sus hijos. Pero ABBY no tardará en descubrir que JEFF tiene unos motivos muy complejos, relacionados con su situación personal. SID oye a KAREN hablar con JEFF y le pide que no comente con él nada sobre ABBY. KAREN le dice que está ciego respecto a su hermana, pero él la defiende y acaban discutiendo. JEFF le pone a ABBY una demanda por la custodia de los niños. Ambos se ven y él reconoce que quiere recuperarla. ABBY se acuesta con él para que retire la demanda, y luego le confiesa que sólo ha sido una noche. JEFF se enfurece y le dice que no está jugando "limpio" con él. Uno de los clientes de LAURA le da un beso, pero ella no quiere traicionar a RICHARD. ABBY le comunica a RICHARD que todo se ha acabado entre ellos.

JEFF CUNNINGHAM, ABBY´s ex-husband, resurfaces in her life under the excuse of watching the atmosphere their children are living in. But it won´t take ABBY too long to know that JEFF has very complex reasons, connected with his personal situation. SID hears Karen talking with JEFF, and tells her not to discuss ABBY with him. Karen says that he is blind to ABBY, but he defends her and they argue. JEFF files for custody of the kids. He and ABBY talk and he admits he wants her back. ABBY sleeps with him so he'll drop the case, and then tells him that it was a one-time thing. JEFF is angry and says she's not playing 'fair' with him. One of LAURA's clients kisses her, but she says she can't cheat on RICHARD. ABBY tells RICHARD that it's over between them.

KAREN ve amenazado su matrimonio cuando LINDA comienza a mostrarse demasiado interesada en su jefe. SID y ella salen a probar un coche y este se avería en una carretera desierta. LINDA le confiesa que está enamorada de él y le besa, pero él no quiere tener una aventura. RICHARD obtiene un empleo en el bufete de KIPPLER, JANSON y STERN. Pide disculpas a LAURA por el modo en que la ha tratado, pero lo que realmente le preocupa es que ella gana más que él. GINGER le dice por fin a KENNY que está embarazada, pero que deben solucionar sus problemas antes de volver a vivir juntos.

KAREN´s marriage is endangered when LINDA begins to seem too interested in her boss. SID and she take a test drive and the car breaks down on a deserted road. LINDA tells him she loves him. They kiss, but he says he can't have an affair with her. RICHARD gets a job with KIPPLER, JANSON & STERN. He apologizes to LAURA for how he's been treating her, but secretly is upset that she earns more than he does. GINGER finally tells KENNY that she's pregnant, but that they need to work out their problems before he can move back in.

GARY está muy preocupado ya que VAL tiene que operarse de un tumor cancerígeno en el colon, y no sabe cómo puede ir la intervención. Todos los vecinos se esfuerzan por dar ánimos a la pareja, e incluso BOBBY se traslada a California para dar su apoyo a la pareja. KENNY visita a GINGER en la escuela y le ruega que vuelva con él, pero sigue rechazándole. Luego se presenta en la clase de Lamaze y se enzarzan en una discusión. GINGER se siente mal y le dice, finalmente, que tanto ella como el bebé la necesitan.

GARY is very worried about VAL´s upcoming tumor surgery and how the operation can go. All their neighbors try hard to encourage the couple and even BOBBY flies to California to support the twosome. KENNY goes to see GINGER at school and implores her to get back together with him. She still refuses. KENNY shows up at her Lamaze class and they argue. GINGER feels bad and finally tells him that both she and the baby need him.

Unos delincuentes asaltan la casa de los EWING mientras se celebra una fiesta. DIANA consigue escapar y avisa a la policía. Los asaltantes se encierran en la casa, reteniendo a las mujeres. En un momento dado, se produce un enfrentamiento entre LAURA y ABBY:

"Tú riendo e insinuándote a ese tío como si hubieras salido con él...Me repugna" - a lo que responde ABBY: "Eres una simplona." "Y tú una zorra - contesta LAURA. "Bueno, hay que serlo para reconocer a una, ¿verdad, querida?" - añade finalmente ABBY, después de ser abofeteada por LAURA. Un equipo de SWAT acude en ayuda de las mujeres, y sus maridos, que se sienten impotentes, acaban discutiendo. Al cabo de ocho horas, los delincuentes son detenidos sin que haya ningún herido entre los vecinos.

A gang of delinquents assaults the EWING house while a party is being celebrated. DIANA makes her way out and calls the police. The assailants hold the women hostage inside the house. On a given moment, there is a showdown between LAURA and ABBY:

"Laughing and carrying on with that guy like you're on a date...It makes me sick" - and ABBY answers: "You're so simple." "You are such a slut - says LAURA. "Well it takes one to know one, doesn't it dear?" - adds ABBY finally, after being slapped by LAURA. A SWAT team is called. Tempers flare among the men, who are feeling helpless. After 8 hours, the SWAT team apprehends the robbers and everybody is okay.

CINDY, la hermana de GINGER, queda en coma después de haber fumado la marihuana que ella había llevado a una fiesta. ABBY, por su parte, le pide explicaciones a JEFF porque tiene motivos para pensar que se propone secuestrar a los niños. El doctor informa que la hierba contenía también polvo de ángel. ERIC es acusado por todos pero, en realidad, la droga no era suya. CINDY acaba saliendo del coma y confiesa la verdad.

GINGER´s sister CINDY gets in a coma after smoking the marijuana that she had taken to a party. ABBY, on her side, asks JEFF for explanations because she has reasons to think that he has intended to kidnap the children. The doctor says the pot had angel dust in it. ERIC is upset as everyone blames him, thinking it's his pot. CINDY finally wakes up and tells everyone that it wasn't ERIC's pot.

VAL acude a clases de creación literaria y se encuentra conque EARL ha sustituido a su profesora. EARL comenta un texto de VAL en clase y, de paso, aprovecha para atacar a su autora. ABBY intenta seducir a GARY, pero al ver que él se siente incómodo, le dice que está bromeando. Todo el mundo cree que LAURA mantiene una aventura con SCOOTER porque flirtean continuamente. Ella le dice que no pueden, porque ambos están casados. RICHARD le pregunta a LAURA si le gustaría hablar de su relación con ABBY, para poder empezar desde cero. EARL invita a VAL a su casa para trabajar juntos en una historia, y quiere hacer el amor con ella para vengarse de su ex mujer y de GARY. VAL se niega y él intenta forzarla, pero acaba rompiendo a llorar. Al final, GARY se disculpa ante él por la aventura que sostuvo con JUDY...

VAL is taking a Literary Creation Course and EARL has turned out to be her professor´s substitute. EARL comments a writing of VAL´s at class and, in passing, he attacks its authoress. ABBY comes on to GARY, but then says she's kidding when she sees how uncomfortable he is. Everyone thinks LAURA's having an affair with SCOOTER, because of all their flirting. LAURA tells SCOOTER that they can't really have an affair, because they're both married. RICHARD asks LAURA if she'd like to discuss his affair with ABBY, so that they can start over. Earl invites VAL over to work on a story, and then asks her to sleep with him to get even with GARY and JUDY. VAL refuses and he starts to force her, but then breaks down weeping. GARY apologizes to him for his ended affair with JUDY...

J.R. quiere asociarse con SID y patentar un motor inventado por este. Tras su negativa, ABBY roba los planos del motor y se los ofrece a J.R., con beneficios adicionales. KAREN le dice a SID que ABBY ha robado los planos pero él no la cree. Ella y VAL sospechan que JEFF pretende raptar a los hijos de ABBY cuando llega para recoger a los niños, y mete todas sus cosas en su caravana. KAREN acude al hotel donde se hospeda J.R. para informar a ABBY sobre ello, pero la mujer no la cree y le dice que JEFF sólo intenta asustarla de nuevo.

J.R. wants to become a partner of SID and patent an engine the latter has invented. After SID refuses, ABBY steals the designs of the engine and offers them to J.R., with fringe benefits and all. KAREN tells SID that Abby stole the plans, but he doesn't believe her. She and VAL suspect that JEFF is planning to kidnap ABBY´s kids, when he comes to pick up the kids, and packs all of their things into his van. Karen goes to J.R.'s hotel to tell ABBY she thinks JEFF kidnapped the kids, but ABBY doesn't believe her and says JEFF is just trying to scare her again.

18/31: "SQUEEZEPLAY" ("ACORRALADOS")

JEFF no ha devuelto a los niños y ABBY empieza a preocuparse. GARY reconoce por fin haber realizado tratos ilegales ante SID. ABBY alega ser inocente, y SID la cree. Sus peores temores se confirman cuando recibe una cinta en la que JEFF confiesa habérselos llevado porque es una mala madre. Al mismo tiempo, el FBI pide a SID y GARY su colaboración para detener a unos traficantes de piezas usadas con los que se implicaron GARY y ABBY. Los dos acceden a testificar y el FBI les proporciona protección. Pero uno de los mecánicos de KL Motors ha manipulado los frenos del coche de SID y, camino de casa, su coche pierde el control con uno de los agentes a bordo y se estrella contra unas vallas en dirección a la playa:

“¡Dios mío!”, exclama terrado SID.

JEFF hasn´t brought the kids back and ABBY begins to worry. GARY finally admits his illegal dealings to SID. ABBY claims to be innocent, and SID believes her. Her worst fears are confirmed when she receives a tape on which JEFF confesses he has taken them away because she is a bad mother. At the same time, FBI asks SID and GARY to collaborate in the arrest of some stolen parts dealers they were involved with. Both of them agree to testify, so the FBI guards them. One of the mechanics at KL Motors lets the brake fluid out of SID's car and, on his way home, with one of the agents in the car, he loses control and crashes over the side of an embankment down to the beach:

"Oh my God!", a horrified SID says.
