BOBBY EWING ha ayudado a reconciliar a su hermano GARY con su esposa VALENE, tras 17 años de separación. Como regalo de bodas, ELLIE les compra una casa en una urbanización en apariencia tranquila, KNOTS LANDING, en la costa sur de CALIFORNIA. BOBBY les ayuda a instalarse y después regresa a DALLAS. GARY y VALENE empiezan a relacionarse con los FAIRGATE, SID, dueño de un negocio de coches usados, y KAREN, ama de casa y madre de tres niños: DIANA, ERIC y MICHAEL:

"Somos la tribu de los Brady del vecindario: tres hijos, coche familiar, perro...Si el perro te hace una visita, llámanos y te enviaremos a la patrulla de limpieza" - les dice con simpatía KAREN cuando se presenta a los nuevos vecinos. Ocasionalmente, ANNE, la hija de SID con su anterior esposa, se encuentra pasando unos días con ellos, y no causa más que problemas. Al final, GARY convencerá a VAL:

"Me he pasado la vida huyendo, y alguna vez tengo que parar." "Este lugar no es...no podemos...No lo sé" - dice ella con reticencia. "Diablos, VALENE...KNOTS LANDING sólo es un lugar..."

BOBBY EWING has helped his brother GARY to reconcile with wife VALENE, after 17 years of separation. As a wedding present, MISS ELLIE buys them a house in an apparently quiet suburban area, KNOTS LANDING, at the CALIFORNIAN Southern Coast. BOBBY helps them to move in and then returns to DALLAS. GARY and VALENE start to socialize with the FAIRGATES: SID, owner of a used cars business, and KAREN, housewife and mother of three kids: DIANA, ERIC and MICHAEL:

"We're the neighborhood Brady Bunch: three kids, station wagon, dog. If the dog visits you, call and we'll send over the scoop squad" - tells them a sympathetic KAREN as she introduces herself to the new neighbors. Occasionally, ANNE, SID´s daughter with his previous wife, happens to be spending a while with them and is causing nothing but trouble. Atay:

"I´ve been running´all my life, I gotta stop sometime." "This place is not...we can´t...I don´t know" - she says hesitantly. "Hell, VALENE...KNOTS LANDING is just a place..."

RICHARD tracks GARY down at a bar and gets him drunk. Both of them go back to the AVERYS´ and GARY accidentally cuts his wrist as he forces the liquor cabinet. VAL and LAURA send him to the hospital, but he escapes. Eventually, he will return to his wife and will accept the help from Anonymous Alcoholics...
